Fork Stanchion recall?

I don't think the issue is there Steve. Maybe in a front end impact. But maybe this type of force combined with bad road surface could compound things.

Do I sound like an expert? :D

Didn't the car side of BMW refuse to admit that their wheels were breaking up? Said it was our roads to blame not the wheels if my memory of Watchdog (or some similar program) serves me correctly. A bit like burying ones head in the sand I think.

I've checked mine (2014 K50 21,000 miles) as I'm shipping it to Iceland in 2 weeks, no evidence of any separation or movement but I'll check it regularly from now on as a third of the trip is off road.

Aside from the event, that's a really good picture :D

Just remembered I did another one when we were in Lesotho about the forks coming apart (they all ride horses in Lesotho and wear woolly hats)

Sorry just found another one, we had so many bike failures we ran out of bikes and had to leave one of our riders behind in a mountain lodge owned by two really weird ladies. We weren't sure if we would ever see Mick again

Faith is based on knowledge. Ask the bloke who broke 10 ribs if he has faith! In this instance, faith needs to be based on a permanent fix that demonstrates total reliability. For me, ideally, that means in a crash or whatever it may bend but it NEVER separates. It's not going to happen so as it stands my 'faith' is extremely week.

I knew my faith was well placed. Mine only has a tad of corrosion behind the neoprene, no crimps!

Did BMW carry out a 'Service Campaign' to apply dimple crimps to the crimpless bikes in the UK back then as they did in the USA? Have you owned it from new?

I don't know what all the fuss is about, what's the worst that could happen its not like the front wheel falling of is a serious fault.

As stated I don't go off road and the front wheel stays firmly on the ground - so how the fcuk is it going to fall off?

So why is many wanting BMW to do a recall and fix for a problem that to some others does not exist?

Its not like anyones front wheel has ever fell off on this variant of the GS range.

Why do you spend so much time in this section? :nenau

Serious question.

A fair point ..........

But - since the next owner of your bike - will have great aspirations of what he will do with the bike - it would be a good idea to get the anomaly fixed at some point, during your ownership?
