Sorry to mention the dreaded fuel pump controller on a Saturday!
I bought a spare for my GS last September from NOG, and was informed there was a recall for all 1200s ever built.

Mine is a Dec 05, and I have heard nothing? Has anyone with a 55 plate had the recall letter?

Also, does the dealer contact the origonal owner, or do BMW cotact the name on the log book - only I'm the second owner!

By the way, the FPC on my bike is silver, and the spare I bought (67.50 FFSAKE) is black.

Great bike, and run flawlessly in the 6 months I've had it (sorry to ruin your day all 1150 owners):thumb

Best phone a dealer who *will* know. As opposed to 5 pages of conjecture here. :nenau

Tried that! Called Woolaston's who sold the bike! They said no recall on that bike - it must have the new black one allready. It hasn't!

NOG told me ALL 1200s to be recalled? Both main dealers, both told me differently?

Call a third... Or take it to NOG to get the work done.....

Tho' if it's any comfort my '06 bike wasn't recalled, nor was it on BuMW's recall list (though the controller failed) - So that may well pop the 'All bikes are recalled' bubble...

Thanks Wapping! Confirms my thoughts - dodgy controller, no re-call?
I did ask NOG, they said when I received the letter, they would sort it, and refund me for the spare controller!

Bit naieve of me to think anyone would sort a bike out of warranty!

Still, my controller hasn't let go yet, I have a spare, and it's still a great, reliable bike so far.

04's and 05's are not on the recall list. Yes they should be - we all know that.

Or 06s according to Wapping! Mainly bikes under warranty then? :blast

My 05 was never called back(also has never had a problem) i did get a spare fuel pump control unit dec 2007 to take to morocco. This was the year of the recall unit and bmw has just swaped my spare for the latest black one, which i have under the seat just in case ;)

Hi,

I had an 06 GSA and FPC packed up. Colected, brought to dealer and repaired under warranty. Have an 08 now manufactured in March 08 and dealer told me doent need recall as problem fixed for bukes manufactured from around this time on. Got ssome other recalls sorted and generally found that if reacall is required they do it it even if not under warranty.

Love these bikes warts and all

Thanks for the reply's!

I stripped the GS down this morning to give it a mid winter clean, and when I took the FPC cover off, there was a pool of water in there. No corrosion as I smeared petroleum jelly all over it when I first got it.
I have also noticed on newer bikes there is no plastic cover over the FPC, is it advised to bin it, along with the foam behind the engine cover?
Talking of which, mine was binned & no corrosion at all behind the cover.

Far as I know there was not a recall.. it was one of those special recalls where BM don't tell anyone, the just do the work at the next service.
Seemed to be the same with a number of "warranty" items.

If you're bikes out of warranty and you don't intend to get it service by the dealer any more (like most do) you'd never find out. I'm sure they've got a fancy name for the procedure.
