So where did pic come from ?
Funnily enough, I wasn't there so I don't know, but if you read post 37 it says under the picture of the crashed truck, "This happened the previous day and I was the lucky sap that came round the bend first in the rain the next day!!"

Bad luck on the crash, but if your ok its a miracle as there isn't exactly a lot of run off there. The bike can always be scrapped and another bought.

Arsey, I am mighty impressed with the versys, never gave one a thought before as the previous model was:barf. Yours looks the business. What are you changing it for?

Some good photos ,showing the change in vegetation as your trip goes on.

Malc, I was confused as I set off before Red1 and never saw an overturned lorry or any diesel . I'm sure Red1 was going up the Route Napoleon too as he was heading to Chambery and I went to Lyon .
At least he is ok !!

Doyle, it's bring part exd against a KTM 1290GT

Ah well ,I see why you would swap, the 1290 will be a proper weapon. I take it you still have the 950se.

Yup the 950SE is a keeper and as much as I like the Versys the Africa Twin excites me more so the 1290 will be a nice alternative and heading to the Route Napoleon asap !!

Gendarme sent me a few of the accident from the previous day. He said they were waiting for an accident to happen on the bend as they weren't confident the road had been cleared properly. It rained as I was leaving Castellane and the rest is history.

Happened on the N202 going west towards Puget Theniers.

Anyone else think meeting Arsey is the "kiss of death" :D

Bloody hell.

Glad you're ok. The bike doesn't look too bad.

It went down on right hand side, slid across road into wall and then bounced across back to left and hit kerb.
Lots of cosmetic bits, guards, screen, etc., but crash bar took most of impact and got pushed into engine. Smashed into head cover and oil pissed out. Not sure full extent of damage to head, barrel, etc.

I'm glad you're here to tell the tale. Did you suffer any injuries?

Has anyone else had a similar event?

Just wondered the likely time scale of getting the bike back over here?

Ah ok , though assume you mean east to Puget T. Didn't realise you weren't riding up the Route Napoleon to Chambery ??

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Good though your ok. Bike is easy to replace:thumb
I'm surprised the police hadn't put out " gazoil"warning signs at the location, they are usually pretty hot on it after a spill.

These two remind me very strongly of a small town called Estaing, on the Lot....altho the river seems to be much higher up under the arches than when I was passing through there last october???

I would say return time 3 /6 weeks, just depends on your insurance company ... my mate collects for insurance co . they dont hurry with the paper work .

Just got email from insurance informing that bike is on the way back. That's pretty good.
Unfortunately my Rukka gear, helmet, etc., isn't covered on insurance as the accident happened outside of UK.

So, as your off was due to the road not being safe after the previous incident, are you going to seek your uninsured losses back from the municipality who failed to clear the mess up properly??

It will be very interesting to see how you get on!!

To be honest I'd love to claim but not sure how to go about it. I've got the "legal" expenses cover but it's France and I'll have to see what their response is.
