I got pulled in France a couple of years ago, and the first thing the copper asked was where are my spare bulbs. When I walked round the bike pointing at all the LED lights, saying LED in a Basil Fawlty voice, he laughed, and said that he had just ordered a new GS and wanted to see what my reaction was! As I was speeding, I was only too happy to talk to him about the bike for 15 minutes, before he let me off with a warning.

Seriously Burbs, relax.
The first time I rode across Normandy I was excited and a little nervous.
I've probably ridden into or across France 4 times a year for the past 18 years now and never once been stopped and had nothing but a good reception.
Only advice I would give is don't ride like a knob just because you are abroad.
Take extra care first thing and after a break (on quiet roads) that you are riding on the RIGHT side of the road.

You both really haven't worked out how french laws function, have you..

You only need to "carry" a spare bulb, nowhere in the law does it say it has to fit.

I take a tulip bulb.

I got a blow out in France on the way home last year. The recovery guy wanted to see my vehicle insurance and V5. I would suggest you take them paperwork wise

Relax - most of the scare stories about travelling in France are nothing to worry about. As others have said the hi-viz, spare bulbs, breathalysers etc are all ignored by the vast majority. The important thing is to not spend all of your time looking for radar traps - they are usually very conspicuous - and enjoy the riding, the scenery, the ambiance and the largely empty and well maintained roads
