Re: SPC have quoted £95 for my first service. This has been listed on my final invoice.

Paul Wakefield said:
Are you saying they have just itemised it separately on the bill for your bike? If so that's fair enough - the price you've paid includes the service. Most dealers will at least split out the cost of the road tax included in the OTR price.

If they've added it to the price you agreed then thats not playing the game.

Paul

No the bill was seperate to the OTR price and was invoice & paid at the 600 mile service - I'll query it with Dealer then BMW UK and come back to you all - thanks for the info!

Seems like on the bottom of the brochures it says "includes delivery,1st service & a full tank of fuel"

Got the brochure in front of me, what page?? then me and Sawbridgeworth are going to have a chat because I heard rumours about a parts only charge. Strange that my CS was free (at P*rk lane, don't get me started about them!).

Cheers

Picked mine up on Saturday from Southport Superbikes Full tank of petrol and free ie free 1st service. £10313 for bike, heated grips, panniers, top box, inner bags. spent Sunday around Dales and Lake District with a noticable lack of police around. Met Mountain man and one other on a very poorly attended gathering (his words not mine). First impressions very good.

Same here for me they didn't charge a penny, and the loan bike was entirely free as well, although I thought it just common courtesy for me to at least put some fuel in it when I returned it. There was none of this tedious form filling and warnings about speeding fines etc, Mike just gave me the keys to a brand new Rockster and said just enjoy your self.....excellent stuff.:) ;)

Its on the back of the cover of the 2004 bikes brochure, right down in the small print at the bottom of the page

The only thing that makes sense is that if you haggle a hard bargain on a brand new bike - ie if you can manage to get ANYTHING off list - then the dealer will say its been negotiated out - and claw it back through any means possible - and unless specified is 'probably' within his rights.

( If any salesmen is actually ever within his rights ? :) )

When you do your bargaining - remember to ask for service, fuel, PDI, plates etc etc as included in your negotiated price not as extras.

This way , you both know where you stand and can't argue the toss

Is that the brown brochure with all the bikes in it and all the optional extras with their prices etc?? or the brochure for the GS itself??

A few yrs ago I bought my first BMW; a silver F650FL which was being sold as an end-of-line model by BMW for £3999 OTR. At the time I was well pleased, but got a BIG shock at the first service when *they* produced an invoice for over £300.

I have had many bikes over the yrs, and 1st service was allways free, so I guess naively I assumed it would be the same with the F650!

When I questioned it, they said it was because the 600mi service requires a huge amount of workshop time/valve adjustment etc..

When I questioned why it wasn't free they said 'ahh, you should have negotiated this at the time of purchase'

Needless to say I've no intention of ever returning to this dealer but loved the F650 and now ride an 1150GS purchased from Cannons last yr. Long drive from Potters Bar, but worth it! Great dealer.

Hiya folk - well here's the response from BMW customer services:
So whatever it says in the brochures this is what BMW had to offer!

Thank you for your email to BMW Customer Services dated 08 June 2004,
regarding the first service on your motorcycle.

I can advise that the cost of the first oil service on the motorcycle at 600 miles is not built into the purchase price of the bike. The decision on whether to cover the cost of this service is at the discretion of the supplying dealership.

I trust that you can understand our views on this matter. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact member of our Customer Service Department.

Yours sincerely

Sorry but their reply is complete bollocks. That reply has probably come frome the Mondial people who deal with any enquires before its passed on to the main customer service dept.If its true what they have said why is it on the back page of their bike brochure in black & white.Had dealings with them before, they don't know their arse from their elbow.

From the BMW UK website:

"Manufacturer's recommended retail price includes delivery, first registration fee, RFL and number plates, PDI and 600 mile service."

which looks to me like weasel words. e.g. if you don't pay RRP, you may have lost the 600 mile service.

The above quote is actually from the 1150GS site as the 1200 still only has access to the German brochure!

Paul

I paid £99 for my first service

Seems like I'd paid too much.

Well never mind, I will learn next time.

Seems like I'd paid too much

No way, I urge EVERYONE that has already paid for the 600 mile service to get back down to the dealer and find the brochure mentioned in this thread and get it under the sales rep eyes and insist on a refund of the service charge!!! No way am I paying for something twice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1st service on my ADV this week at bvm moto.........NIL...........and they cleaned the bike

Wrote back to BMW informing them that the brochure says the 1st service is included in the OTR price - sent me an email telling me they were "investigating" my complaint - Still waiting. I also told them If I don't get any joy I'll go to the local trading standards.

Not been back to the dealer yet cos I don't wanna ruin an otherwise reasonable relationship - and I know that they have stiffed me for £60.00+ and thats not reasonable but thats the type of idiot I am!!
