Hi All,

Having recently acquired a 660 from here, I needed to update the maps and wasn't keen on forking out cash for it.

I went on the hunt and found a lovely website that hosts them all for free. Downloading them takes a while but hey if it's free I'm game.

GPSUnderground.com

For Garmins it's pretty easy to do, simply copy and paste but I believe the TomTom range is abit more of a fiddle.

Happy mapping

I hear you, but there are detailed guides on how to install and load it.

It's really not that hard for Garmins, simply case of copy and paste

some people can not get it right using garmin express, let alone find the above website and navigate it, find the map they need and then try to download it using one of the many torrent clients that are out there or sign up to one of the share sites or wait hrs to download each chunk, then you have to unrar or unzip the said items, (crys of whats that), Then depending on what was downloaded, the locked or unlocked maps it will be what next and so on, but as i said no offence was intended, just pointing out that some folks will get themselves into a heap of trouble.
My advise is if you are not savvy with this technology dont do it or get someone who is.

Or just install OSM mapping via Mapsource/Basecamp ...........

Yes you could do that, but same again look at how many people struggle with that as well. No disrespect to those that do struggle because some people just dont get on with technology. The advise above was for those people, as it could work out more costly than they first thought, and for those that have no issue using sites like the op posted carry on as this does not apply to them.

Lee I totally agree with you 100%. It is not for everyone but I'm sure there are a number of people who will find it useful

I've been using 'The pirate bay' for my Garmin for years. Free, reliable, and anyone who is savvy with a laptop or PC would be capable. Would be happy to talk anyone through. :thumb2

I often use OpenStreetMap but on this occasion decided to try this GPS Underground website.

Bloody brilliant! Once I'd worked out how to unpack a .rar file to get at the .img file needed for the update it was a doddle! Just updated both of my old Garmins.:thumb
