Calling all you 1100 owners. My 1100GS has got slight movement of about 2mm felt at the back wheel when it is rocked from side to side with the bike on the centre stand. The freeplay seems to be coming from inside the final drive housing in the area of the universal joint.

Is it a case of "They all do that sir" or is it likely to be a fault somewhere?

Try it when at normal operating temperature - if the free play has almost gone, it's normal. If the movement is still there, it's your bevel bearings. Mine cost around £150 to fix at an independent specialist.

There are 3 sources for this movement

- swing arm bearings .. these are near the end of the gearbox

- paralever bearings .. about where you described

- bevel drive bearings - basically what you'd call wheel bearings on a car .. except these are around the bevel drive as well.

2mm is too much from the paralever bearings at any temperature.. time to replace them ..

Are you certain where the play is coming from?
