French Alps (but maybe Germany, too)

Doc seems to be basing his holiday planning on the MOD procurement process

Bods’ plans do change, especially when they start off maybe nine months early. As usual it all hinges on time / distances and what a fellow / his pillion wants to do. Depending on time and most particularly where in Germany Doc’s friend hangs his hat, it can all still work. For example, if the bod is near Munich, go down the Route Napoleon, come back up the Route des Grande Alps and then hightail across to Munich / Bavaria, as shown below. Doc needs to get back to the Dutch coast for his return ferry, so (depending on the variables) Germany can work….. to help more, he needs to tell us more.

French Alps first whatever happens.

My friend resides in Cochem.

If you're into Roman things, then Trier an hours ride up the Mosel is well worth a visit.

Lucky friend. That makes it pretty easy as potentially a stop in both directions from Europoort as very easy to plan a route, maybe going through Burgundy or Alsace in France on the way south and German Black Forest on the way back.

But aren’t you going there in June on your annual rosé ramble ?
Yes but a invite for both of us too go back later in the year so thought we could ride up from maybe Castellane. If we decide to go that is.

Sorted for my run down Wessie to Annecy then Castellane.

Cochem is over 600 miles north of Castellane.I’m not sure combining both is the greatest idea unless you’re planning to be away for at least two weeks ?

Slawit tut Alps 3 days.
Fucking around Alps 7 days.
Castellane tut Cochem 2 days
Drinking rosé 3 days
Cochem tut Slawit 2 days

So around 17 days minimum

My route would be:

Aim for somewhere like Fejus,
Work along the coast to Cannes/Antibes
Route Napoleon north, deviation off to Castellane and Gorges de Verdun.
Castellane to Annecy.
Annecy to Cochem (via eastern end of the lake)

Nice mix of coast, lakes and mountains, plenty of opportunities to find a base for exploring RDGA.

Save the detail planning until nearer the time!

Christ, you’ve confused the feck out of me, let alone Doc! 😕 Especially seeing that he’s already booked a few hotels and planned routes between them.

Doc, it can work, if you’d like it to but (as usual) it’s dependent on the time you have available. One advantage is that Cochem is (vaguely sort of) in the right area for your return crossing. At least the fellow doesn’t live in Berlin or Passau.

I'll owe you all a pint of Rose after this.

What, like Frejus?

I really must get some new specs.

Ah well, did say it was my choice of route.

Although I never stick to a planned route and wouldn’t book a hotel more than 6 hrs in advance.

To be fair the prospect of more than a day on sauerkraut and Wiener schnitzel would have me heading back to France anyway.
