The boss likes this place for Annecy. Is it worth staying a couple of nights there before moving on to Castellane ?

No open to suggestions between Annecy and Castellane. So,are you planning to move on to Castellane straight after Annecy or stay somewhere in between?
If you’re planning to follow or even loosely follow the Route des Grandes Alpes, you won’t get from Annecy to Castellane in a day.
You could of course go on faster roads and do it in 5 hours but then you would miss out on some of the best views in Europe found at the Col des Aravis, Cormet de Roseland,Col de L’Iseran, Col du Galibier etc
etc.

Annecy in general.
Are you suggesting @Doc is an alcoholic?!If you want to go roaming around Annecy in search of beer or rosé…. especially when in a chemically altered state.
I mentioned La Mure early on in this thread, I haven’t stayed there but did a train ride into the alps which had some amazing views https://lepetittraindelamure.com/No open to suggestions between Annecy and Castellane.

Well, that's your own fault and it's not for the good members here for lack of trying....I would suggest however that maybe your thread title be not so vague and confusing. Now I'm definitely lost.![]()

Oi don't you start.Well, that's your own fault and it's not for the good members here for lack of trying....I would suggest however that maybe your thread title be not so vague and confusing.
Always happy to help.![]()
Thanks. Looks a good stopover from Annecy for a couple of nights before heading to Castellane.Villa Morelia in Jausiers would be a good base for a couple of nights .

The Route des Grandes Alpes splits at Jausiers with the option to go over the Col de la Bonnette or further SW to route via Col de la Cayolle.
By staying in Jausiers you could ride both loops .
Have lunch at the Halte 2000 just down from the summit of La Bonette.

Thanks Richard.Doc, so far in this thread there have been assorted suggestions, all spread across a huge area of what is sort of the south east corner of France.
In very simple terms:
a. You have decided on Annecy as your first base, with Castellane as your second.
b. You want somewhere between the two for a stop.
c. There are two classic routes north to south, which are:
1. Route des Grande Alpes
![]()
2. Route Napoleon
![]()
d. As you can see from these very simplified maps, the two routes do not overlap; they run parallel to each other. One starts in near enough Grenoble and passes (with a loop) through Annecy, then heads off through several of the places suggested in this thread, before reaching the Mediterranean at Menton. The other starts south of Annecy and passes through Castellane, before reaching the sea at Cannes. Menton is about 40 miles east of Cannes, with Nice near enough between the two.
e. With these two very simple maps, you should be able to work out where is halfway between all sorts of places and start to plan your holiday accordingly.
f. As you have set aside quite a lot of days to ‘Do the French Alps’ I’d suggest, going down the Route Napoleon, which will tick off two of the popular ‘Must do’ spots, being Annecy and Castellane. Then I’d come back up the Route des Grande Alpes, and tick off a few more.
I like thatAnother suggestion, if you going as far south as Castellane, is to take yer old Harley up the Lacets de Montvernier.
