French Alps (but maybe Germany, too)

Ho ho.

Apt is a nice town. A couple of petrol stations, banks, post office, cafes, supermarket, chemist, A&E hospital, rugby club, good (large) regional market on Saturdays (get there early), decent parking down by the river (near the post office), good campsite.

A year or so ago, the road up and over Mont Ventoux was shut, right at the top, for a large redevelopment. I guess that is all finished now *

* Can’t be arsed to Google to find out.

When I was there in 2020 you couldn’t ‘summit’ Ventoux as the road was shut at the top.

Apt is nice.
Nyons is nicerer !

Stayed there on the way home from Vercors/Ventoux etc

I believe it is fully open* now

*mandatory chains or studded tyres must be used between 1st of Nov - 31st March. No mention of motorcycles, but one would have to be daft…

Wife and I stayed in Sault a couple of nights, took a day trip to the top of Mont Ventoux, fabulous views from the top.

Do not think we did Nyons, does look nice.

There are lots of very nice small towns and villages, throughout Provence. Sault, on its hillside, is certainly one.

I have deleted some posts from this thread.

Once again, what starts as lighthearted banter, is seen as going overboard.

Let’s listen to Doc’s plans for his and his wife’s holiday and see what he comes up with. The thread can still be amusing but better if it can avoid becoming overly personal.

I was simply pointing out that Doc had yet again ignored the advice he asked for.

The Hotel du Levant may well have improved but the last time I stayed there the rooms were old and knackered, the staff were unfriendly and the breakfast was shite.

But Jayne likes it …

The hotel you mentioned is not taking bookings for next year yet. We wanted to get stuff booked so spotted the hotel we have booked.
Looks ok to me and has been renovated

Yup, we know why but the style of the later replies probably did not come across too well.

As with any advice given on the forum, nobody is obliged to follow it, even if the hints and tips were well intentioned in the first place.

Anyway.
From Castellane we thought we would head up to Briancon for maybe a few nights but not sure yet. There are some nice rides around there. Then from there a stopover on our way to Cochem.

I've stayed there a couple of times (one this year) and it was fine for me.
Locked garage at the end of the hotel for your bike too.

Dont neglect the South side of the Verdon gorge, less traffic, more spectacular. A cool little village just up from lac Le Croix for a snack and drinks too, Aiguines. Though they like you to eat if you are taking a seat at the café!

We tried yesterday and couldnt book. Anyway sorted now.

What is that supposed to mean.

I think @Arsey had emailed them when booking out of season (ie in the winter) they however did take their time to respond if my memory serves me right.

I looked at booking the hotel you’ve booked, but as Arsey at the time already booked his, it only made sense to stay in same place. Other than that I have no other experience with said hotel. Having looked at the pictures posted in Google maps, the hotel does look a little drab for the money they are asking.
The recommended hotel is well up to scratch though.
