Front Brake Disc

My front brake rotor has started the notourious "rattle" when going over bumpy roads.

I know for a fact that on the "rotor's" of K-bikes and oil heads, the rotor "buttons" can be removed and replaced, eliminating the "play", rattle noise.

Now on my GS,I look at the rotor and buttons, and see that the rotor appears to be "riveted" on.
So my question is,can I also replace these "buttons" on the rotor or do I need to buy a whole new rotor replacement? Thanks!

Same problem on my R80GS. Have been told that the bobbins and circlips cannot be used to replace the worn rivetted bobbins.
EBC do a replacement disc, Motorworks a PFM cast iron. and the OEM is available. But apart from the rattle there is little enough wear on my disc and I have noticed that once I get some heat into the disc that the rattle mostly disappears.
Hopefully someone on this forum (not Cookie aka the nanny sniper) has been there and done that and will lead us to enlightenment.

I have a similar problem on my 1978 R100/7, only it's the ATE caliper on one side that rattles rather than the disc. The caliper has a sort of king pin running up through it, and is kept in place between two rearward facing castings on the fork legs. There's a small 'nylon' pellet at the base of the caliper, or is in on the top of the casting, which should prevent up and down movement of the caliper but it's clearly worn. Oddly the other caliper is fine. The rattling can be heard when riding on bumpy roads. I have been unable to find a source for replacement nylon pellets. Any ideas?

I have a similar problem on my 1978 R100/7, only it's the ATE caliper on one side that rattles rather than the disc.

you may already know - but the caliper is adjustable with the retaining bolt that runs through it, its adjusted so the inner pad is just skimming the disc - set up this way should make it silent/quieter --

I replaced my rattly one with a EBC pro-lite. Nowt wrong with it. Works with all sintered pads including the BMW (Brembo) ones.

TOP TIP :- DO NOT BUY EBC "KEVLAR" PADS. They are VERY dangerous.

I wanted to know the same thing Rich.

My R80G/S needs a new disk, but it has the rare deep carrier.
A new ebc replacement disc already mounted on a carrier is $450.
I thought I could just get a second hand disc and rivet it onto my carrier, but could not find any info on the rivets.
Are they special?
can you just air hammer them on if you could find some???

New disc as far as I'm concerned is the only option. Take the opportunity to get a good one to while you're at it

................spoke to a former BM' wrench ta-day (he's an independent now).... and he says "Nope" no fixie!!!
Gotta buy a new setup or send off to Speigler for a fix,"Oh well"$$$$$$
