My 2010 cam head's front brake lever is not activating the Brake light i do believe that this model is activated via a pressure switch and not by a micro switch in the hand unit, And idea's and Thx in advance.

I also think that the brake lights are controlled by pressure switches in the abs module.
The wiring to the brake light is from the ZFE ecu (central electronic unit) and the switch input is from the ABS module to the ZFE.
I assume that you have the led rear light unit which seem to be reliable the early units with filament bulbs suffered from corrosion .
I would first check the fault codes with a GS911 then the wiring to and from the ZFE ecu.

My 2010 GSA, non abs, has a micro switch at the lever.
I take it just tells the ZFE to turn the brake light off or on?

The wiring diagram that I have just shows the symbols for 2 switches.
I assume they are pressure switches or micro switches depending on an ABS or non ABS system.

As an update, it is possible using a GS911 to see if the brake light switches are working .
If they are then it would narrow your search.

I’m having difficulty with mine and it’s a 2012 Adventure with almost 95,000 miles. It started a couple of weeks ago with an intermittent fault. The Lampr light comes on and the brake lights don’t work. It’s fully developed now and fails every time I touch either brake. The fault is saying 41730 Brake light open circuit. I’ve disconnected the rear lamp and it still does it. I’ve got the tank off and can’t see any obvious wire damage. Tomorrow night I’ll try to operate the brake light via the GS911 as you mentioned. What can I conclude either way from the results?
Thanks.

If the bike has ABS and the brake light switches are working ( check with GS911) I would think that it would be a connector or break in the wire ( yellow and black tracer) from pin 50 on the ZFE ( central vehicle electronics unit).
You could try piggy backing this wire. The LED tail lights no not draw a lot of current so it is easy to get a dirty connector .

Thanks, I’ll be out there shortly. It has ABS and both brakes trip it out.

The findings so far, the brake light works when operated by the gs911, if I disconnect the lower J2 plug on the ZFE and operate either brake it works fine, but if I connect it then it trips out and puts up the fault. I can’t see a pin 50 on the ZFE but I can in the manual. I can’t see any obvious wiring damage.

I think the brake light is triggered by pressure switches in the ABS module, the fact that the GS911 is operating the switches and the brake light is working suggests that that side of wiring is ok.
`I only have the Haynes wiring diagram is the J2 plug represented on the circuit diagram with squares or circles on the pin connectors.

It turned out to be the ZFE module. I found a used on with the same numbers and it’s ok now, except it must be for an older bike with a normal bulb. Resistors on order.

You may be able to change the code to led bulbs using the Motoscan App. ( Someone on here with more experience may be able to help ).
I have the Motoscan ultimate and OBDlink MX+ but tend to use the GS911 which has limited coding.
Not hijacking the thread but if there is a Motoscan expert on here , How do I turn on the heated gip symbol on the Kombi, 2012 R1200GS TC have searched ??

Interesting that you cant turn on the heated grips via motoscan, if it helps the trigger switch is in the Kombi cluster settings in the GS911

Bigger one for me , was why wasn't it turned on in the first place? i only spotted it by accident lol

I tried using GS911 on my 2007 bike nothing happens - we need to be saying TRYING to turn on heated grip ICON in LCD display

you can enable heated grip function with motoscan - not looked for the cluster icon feature on this tool

GS911 dev, have told me they show all possible features they find across multiple model ranges - whether it will function or not - so where a K1300GT gets a heated grip icon switch so the GS911 tool has it, the bike you are working on may not have the feature - which is what I see on my 2007 GS

I also find it strange - on motoscan he clearly reboots modules after coding update - whereas GS911 seems a sleepy change

Just run the kombi lamps / display test, if the heated grip symbol ( bottom right) of the kombi shows up in the self test, you should be able to turn it on

06 MY didnt have it - ive just looked in the owners manual

11MY does have it

My 2012 GS has the icon as you say bottom right when self test is performed.
Reading posts I was under the impression that this feature could be turned on but may have read it wrong..
Not that it is essential but as I have the kit I thought I may as well activate the feature if possible.
I do not use the Motorscan very often as I find it lists a lot of features that are not on the bike and the functions are not as clear as the GS911

I turned mine on using the gs911

My gs911 is the old yellow one upgraded to professional and not had an update for a long time as it is the Legacy software.
I have not seen this option on it.

you won't - its new features they have been working on in 2024 for the red devices

using GS911 on my 2010 GSA TC - Yes - the Heated grip icon shows up with setting 1 or 2 - as mentioned earlier, how come they didn't do that at the factory !

the GS911 new "actual speed" display does NOTHING on either of my GS bikes 2007 GS or 2010 GSA
on the K1600 - part of the (well hidden std) user menus, is to toggle to find a setting to enable a digital version of the analogue dial - as I mentioned to them, I suspect what they have really found is not "actual speed" display (as you can enable on the E89 cars) but the other of these two hidden choices on the cars. So not hidden "GPS speed" just the inaccurate analogue speed dial in a "digital speed" format

the Oil temp display option you find on the motoscan app doesn't show up on the 2007 GS either... unless this is just the engine temp bar chart opposite the fuel level... but its OFF on the motoscan app so I suspect its an optional number display on some cluster versions

after 8 years using via the motoscan app - and four years of asking - the GS911 guys added enable the hidden "Tyre temp" cluster menu (via red 911 devices) for this year

I have turned on the tyre temp with the Motorscan app , it is not available on the GS 911 Legacy.
As the Legacy does most of what I need for my TC so will not change to the Red one.
I stand more chance of Motorscan being upgraded to turn on the heated grip Icon in the future.
