Are the front brakes on the 08 model substantially better than the 07?

front brakes

Is this a leading question? Was here anything wrong with the front brakes on the previous mode? I had the 2004 model with ABS and servo; I thought they were excellent in every respect and found the servo ideal; However i have to say that the 2008 brakes, now without the servo, seem to me to be every bit as good;

Well it is a leading question, but not how you think.

I have had an 07 from new and the brakes seemed fine. My bike went in for some work and I had the loan of an 08 for 2 days.

When I left the dealer once again on my trusty stead I pulled up at the first junction and nearly sailed out into the traffic. I stopped to wipe the discs over with an old (used!) tissue but the brakes felt poor all the way home.

Now did I just get used to the superior 08 brakes or did the dealer mess up some how?

I would say that the 2008 brakes are as good as on the previous model with the servo and much better than models without the servo. Now 'they' have done something to the new model to compensate for the lack of servo I would think;

So, what work did the dealer do to the brakes? New pads on old disks always take a while to 'bed in'

If they've changed the brake fluid maybe there's a bit of air left in?

If they've not touched the brakes then 'Houston you have a problem'

They should not have touched the brakes, which is why I was not being over cautious. They did change the fork oil seal and upper chrome tube.

When I got the 20 miles home gently, I wiped the disks down with white spirit and things got a bit better.

oh dear... a touch of doubt is creeping in... the bike will never be the same again :eek:

best thing to remedy this is to go direct to your dealer and buy an 08 mate... :thumb
