Front Engine Casing

Gents, can anybody ident this engine casing by year?
I bought it off ebay, supposed to be for a 2006 - 2010 GS but Cupar Motorcycles went to fit it today and said it is the wrong one. I have a 2006(56) R1200 GS.
Would appreciate any help so that I can advertise & sell it properly.

Need to see a bigger picture than that.
Are there any part numbers on the other side?.
 
The picture is from the original ebay listing. The bike and case are currently at cupar bikes, I will take some better pictures & have a look for numbers when I get it back.
 
Can't be off a gs, there's no facking corrosion on it, :D
Sorry not a lot of help, been trying to get one for a while for mine, BMW told me last year that there no new ones in Europe.
 
The early case has a bearing for the lower cam chain shaft (crankshaft front end??).
Later version has only the oil seal to worry about.

They corrode around the bolt holes so use copper washers under any stainless bolts. Put rounded side towards the paint.
 
Yes the garage has said that mine has a lower bearing.

hey guys. can anyone tell me please what the bolts should be to torque at on the above casing, like above my is a 06 gs 1200. i want to take them off one by one to polish them. ( with the bench polisher ). i know there stainless under all the grim........

About 7nm will do but just tighten by hand with a normal key. Since its stainless remember and re-coat the threads with copaslip or they will corrode in.

Copper washers and a high solids content anti fouling paste under stainless bolts will reduce the alloy corrosion. Put the rounded side of the washer towards the aluminium cover. Tighten by hand with a standard allen key until they go tight. Stainless has very little spring in the threads so when tight it stops suddenly. Relying on torque settings with small screws can risk damage and the anti seize paste can sometimes affect the correct setting.

On mine, the front cover paint has failed around the bottom two bolts holes and all around the belt cover bottom bolt hole. The centre line was untouched so the damage can't have been caused by stone chips. Good copper paste and copper washers will reduce the risks of the problem coming back.

How long does it take stainless to react with the alloy ! To enable corrosion to start.
 
I have aftermarket hand guards with aluminium brackets and stainless bolts & washers. Within a couple of weeks of the road salt going down there's a rim of aluminium oxide around the washers.
For harsh environments the galvanic voltage difference between metals should be less than 0.15V. Stainless sits at -0.5V. Aluminium is -0.9V.
I don't understand how copper stops the corrosion but just accept that it works.
 
thanks lads for all the help. just bought some anti seize and i have copper washers, i'am just a little worried that with the copper paste the bolts will rattle out even when torqued in. maybe i'am worried about notting,,,,,,,,,,,,
