need help.
I had one of my forks leaking so replaced both seals.
they both started leaking after fitting.
after redoing the fork oil amount and setting the 'air screw' as per posts on this site they are still both leaving a thin layer of oil on the tubes when they compress. I have checked the seals and cant see any problems.
Are they directional and I put them in the wrong way round?
the sliders are in good condition and like I say now after replacing both seals they are both leaking and I only had one leak before my 'repair'
any one had this ??
thanks in advance

how do I know what direction they are to be installed. do the seals have a mark I need to look for to insert them the right way ?
:beerjug:

thats the top of the seal,so the lips face down

Seal Has Springs on BOTH Sides!

OEM seal has springs on the top side AND bottom side:eek:
The top side recess is not as deep as the recess on the bottom side (oil side) also the outer edge on the top side has the numbers/size embossed on it

Before you take them out check for the school boy error that I've made in the past.
I put the seals in the correct way but the fork legs where covered in oil from the old fecked seals. When I refitted the forks the wiper seal worked in reverse, pooling the excess oil off the stations into the recess above the seals. Push the fork down, they come up covered in oil. Wipe them clean push them down again, full of oil again which made me think I'd put them in upside-down. :blast

Did you buy these seals from Motorworks, I bought seals 3 months ago and found that the OD was incorrect and was actually leaking around the outside of the seal and seaping up and out of the dust seal and onto the stanshion.

well I stripped and replaced the seals the right way round and after a long ride I am happy to say all is now well in 'gs land' and yes they are directional.

No seals were harmed during the making of this post, however a few were angry as the were not blown as first expected :beerjug::beerjug::beerjug::beerjug::beerjug:

thanks for the help dudes.

fitted a new seal, which i bought from motorworks, and its still leaking oil on the stanchion
i am sure i have fitted it the correct way round as steptoes thread. photo shows the seal ive just taken out and thats the way i fitted it, ie, thats the top side i hope or am i being a total knob !!
at a total loss and considering whether the seal is correct, did you contact motorworks
any help appreciated

can only speak for my problem and it was the seals that were in upside down, after flipping them over I have a leak free fork area.
maybe your tubes are pitted and causing the leaks?
