Fuel advice

Spoke to the dealer today. He said just run it on ordinary 95 Unleaded. altho, they av told me not to take it above 4000rpm till after the first service (could av started another old debate now about `running in`, lol), :augie

Yep....:rob

handbook tells you how...this from my 2010 handbook, much more revy afaire than previous boxers,

Same here I have always used 98 Octane on GS1200 both my 2006 model and recently upgraded to Triple Black you can definately tell the difference if you can spend the extra £ Go for it and enjoy:)

How can you tell the difference if you've always used 98 octane?

Mine returned under 40 mpg on cheap unleaded, and about 43 on V power, also much smoother, but then I am very perceptive :eek

Runs fine on 95 which is what I usualy use.

I did put 98 in when the petrol station had run out of 95, rode home and did`nt notice anything better.

BUT-The bike got left in the garage for a week and when I rode it again I kept thinking this seems perky. The only thing I could think of was the change of fuel.
Seemed to pick up quicker and a bit smoother.

I still don`t use it all the time due to the price but will do when two up.

Mmm...

Having used both, I reckon that the engine runs a bit smoother and there's a few more miles in the tank, but that's hard to assess scientifically seeing as there are variables between any two journeys. Doesn't the GS Adv have some gizmo (knock-sensor?) that allows it to run on 91 octane if that's all that is available?

Actually, maybe the bloody fuel gauge only reads the level of 98 octane?!?!?! 'Cause mine can't seem to relay the level of 95 octance in the tank... :toungincheek.

as far as I know the 1200 engine has a knock sensor.....so you can ride even on crap fuel you get in nowhereland.... the higher the octane rating the better the engine runs eg fuel consuption, acceleration, smoothness........but i have to say as long as you don't do orgies on the german motorways you are best served with 95.......it's a good compromise ££€€€
