My fuel cap opens every time, without fail.
It uses a clever innovation called a “key”

who tries this...The keyless fuel cap behaves slightly differently on the 1300 compared to the 1250. (See my previous post or manual)I always press the front of the cap down a little while pulling the lever up, always done this since my first GS in 2019 and I've yet to have an issue. Although like my 2 1250's I used a small syringe to drip some ACF onto the pin to keep it nicely lubed. I repeat this every few months.
I use mine exactly the same as I did with my previous 2 1250’s, I’ve not noticed anything different with the operation of this one to be honest, except it clicks back in with a more satisfying click. But I’ll have a gander at the manual anywayThe keyless fuel cap behaves slightly differently on the 1300 compared to the 1250. (See my previous post or manual)
I’ve not had a problem since cleaning and spraying it with PTFE, though every time I pull up for petrol I wonder if it’ll open.Mine has just failed to open.....so off it comes with torx....what a faff!
If you overfill it or spalsh petrol into the the area where the pin sits, the odds of it not opening increase tenfoldI’ve not had a problem since cleaning and spraying it with PTFE, though every time I pull up for petrol I wonder if it’ll open.
That could have been the cause of my issue because I like to squeeze in as much as I can.If you overfill it or spalsh petrol into the the area where the pin sits, the odds of it not opening increase tenfold![]()
Did you try switching the ignition back on & off, then try the fuel cap again?.Mine has just failed to open.....so off it comes with torx....what a faff!
About 26 times. Then I pressed on the front and it opened. Added 3 in 1....Did you try switching the ignition back on & off, then try the fuel cap again?.
If it had timed out between switching off and trying to open the cap it would then need a double pull on the flap.
Very likely, but probably will show a fault on the dash. What I do know you can't factory order a bike with a key on the new GS.Can a Keyless fuel cap be changed out for the old fashioned key operated cap?
Serious question. I'm thinking about any future bike cursed with a keyless cap.
Get the supplier to remove the pin that locks the cap......or grind it off with a Dremel.....ah, you can't do that unless it's closed, lol. Can a Keyless fuel cap be changed out for the old fashioned key operated cap?
