Hi to you all. I have an r100gs with 40mm Bing carbs on as standard. My question is if i placed a set of 32mm Bing carbs on to this bike would i improve the fuel consumption and what effect would it have on the performance. I am looking at doing an overland trip and this airhead is the machine i want to take but at 40mpg i am looking at ways to improve upon this. By the way, great site with lots of interest and banter.Stash.

I don't think you would see much difference in the MPG but you would get better low and midrange performance. The 1000GS in the States was fitted with 32mm carbs so it's an easy well documented swap.

My 1000cc GS with 40 MM Bings does 20km/L or 56 miles to the imperial gallon, when everything is perfect- when it gets down to 18 I know it is time for a good tune up.
My 32 mm carb bikes actually struggle to match that, so I dont think carb size makes much difference - they are CV carbs and can handle a bit oversizing - that is one of the main reasons for fitting CVs.

Where are you going? Once out of western Europe, your speed will drop off a lot. Or maybe it just needs a good tune up, or maybe its the way you drive:D

With the 35litre tank, I never saw range as an issue on me trip to India.
