I am sure that this question has been asked a number of times so sorry if I am revisiting.

I am interested in what to expect in the way of fuel consumption, I expect the fuel guage to be no more than an indication, so I have done a full tank to orange light on run an got about 150 I was then 17 miles from next services on the motorway and made it, although the gague was on empty. Didnt want to push it any further !!!

Now that would seem reasonable to me especialy as it was high speed motorway riding.

Last thing I have a 99 model with the steel tank, but got the earlier plastic tank with the bike, it looks biggger, is there a significent difference in capacity? or can someone point me in the direction of a good site with spec's.

Thanks in advance with any help.

This has been done ...

... many times, but my experience with my old 1100 and my new 1150GSA is that I get about 10m/Litre whether I thrash it or not :augie

One important factor often overlooked is the accuracy of the speedo; my 1100 was regularly 10% optimistic and the 1150 is not much better. The solution in the form of a different speedo drive costs £33ish from Motorworks (and others) and is easy to fit.

The standard one fitted to the GS has a 3/1 ratio, by fitting one from an RT with a 2./1 ratio your speedo becomes much more accurate when measured against a GPS.

A search will reveal lots of galactic mileage claims, but few of them take the above error into account.
