Will run of the mill metal clamps from Halfords to hold the pipes on the fuel filter be ok ?

Ok I'll try and get the tool, or maybe those old fashion "c" shaped pliers would do it. Failing that I'll order a couple of those Timmy clamps.![]()
Re use the clamps at your own risk, remember it's under pressure and new stainless clamps cost peanuts.
When I did mine many years ago, I didn't have the correct clips, they seemed to big width wise, so I used cable ties instead, pulled tightly, never had any issues,
When I replaced the filter on my Breva 1100 I used the cable ties, and that still has them in the tank!

Plastic cable ties permanently submerged in fuel ? Don't think that would sit well in my little peanut brain.

More than 10 years and however many hundreds of bikes re-using without any problems..

You worry too much!
if there were any issues, then there would be degradation between fuel filters changes, there never seemed to be any!
if I was to worry about the cable ties, then surely the plastic tank on the Breva, would be more of a worry!![]()
