hi guys just a bit of advice please,10 plate gs1200 but old shape single cam.
fuel gauge gone to nothing ,orange triangle showing ,this just happened in an instant as i was riding, i am guessing its the stip in the tank,is it :nenau
so looking at the sticky thread it looks an easy job to replace ,so if i put it into a totally empy tank ,and then re fueling to the top ,does it need callibrating .
i read on here somewhere that they are callibrated from zero .
any help guys please .
also any tips on loosening that big jam jar top to get the strip out.
i aint stong enough to turn with my hands and an oil filter strap is to short.
many thanks guys
ian

an update on this for anyone else, fitting the fuel strip is an easy job,its in the sticky list, but calibrating has to be done by a bmw dealer.
i rang motorworks to ask about the price of the part, they are really reluctant to sell the part as they know joe public has no way to callibrate.
hense the dealer gets my 205 quid to fix the job next wednesday.

It makes an extended warranty seem like a good idea.

I've had this before on two different GSAs so I rather expect it now.

Good luck, I'm sure your dealer will sort it easily.

Try the peizo gas lighter fix.

Fill the tank with fuel and do as shown here. No air in tank = no ignition. If its no good use the fuel before taking bike to BMW.

Mine died a death this week whilst out on a ride. Sorted myself out with a peizo lighter. Stripped it down and did as thread suggested. Now shows a full tank, time will tell if the range etc work out ok. But for now has potentially saved me a good few quid.:thumb2

The latest GS911 Beta release allows you to calibrate a DRY fuel strip yourself. If you have one or know anyone with one, you could do the job yourself and calibrate it before putting into the tank.

I paid £200 for a dealer to do mine because the software wasn't available at the time.
