Hi Guys wondering if you had any ideas on this.

Fuel gauge on dash when the tank is full it reads full. looses 3 bars than stays there, so I thought the fuel sensor had gon so bought a new one.

I fitted this over a week ago and thought it was just coincedence that the gauge read minus 3 bars same as the old one but thought ah thats where the petrol must be.

What with work and the like have not really been out on it but tonight I gets it out the garage and starts her up, yep gauge is reading minus 3 bars so all good.

I reset everything speed, mpg, etc etc and away I go, bike is reading 50.4 mpg, I am thinking great so far, miles left is 279, good me thinks, then it starts to rise, 280, then 288 and look at the petrol gauge and its rose 1 bar.

feck i think, I keep riding thinking with a few tight corners the fuel has moved around but no it is still reading now minus 2 bars. rides round a bit more and woohoo it drops a bar, so now reading minus 3 bars, and the miles left is reading 268, happy days im thinking so keep riding and yes you guessed is it rose another bar to minus 2 bars.

Feck feck feck i thinks.

so guys any ideas on what will be causing it to do this, its not the sensor so I am thinking its the actual computer on the dash.

I do not mind filling upo and setting the trip, did that all my time on bikes with sports bikes but its just annoying.

Bikes shagged, sell it.:blast
I would think the only real way to test the new gear, is to fill the tank and start again from scratch.
Probably not the best answer, but its a thought. No doubt some smart arse will come along with the perfect answer for you. :thumb2

Thanks for that, will try it at the weekend.

Just been out on the GSA, bike stalled at the T junction around the corner and was a bit hesitant to restart. As I rode off, the fuel warning triangle was lit, no bars showing on the RID and counting down from 400 miles eventually to zero. Fuel tank is almost full.

Looks like an ££££ expensive trip to the dealership once the fuel tank is almost empty for a new fuel level sender and recalibrate. Bugger!

Need to keep an eye on the trip meter for now.

I believe the sensor and gauge need calibrating when either is replaced. Unfortunately it is a dealership job, and needs just 4 litres in the tank.

Yep, although I was told to take it with a full tank!

Actually mine was a bit of a strange one. Took it in for the fuel strip but they found out despite being a 2010 model, mine actually has a float assembly ... that had fallen apart! :blast
So I re-booked it and a new float was fitted. When I picked it up I was told there was still a fault & a very expensive electronic box needed replacing BUT a BuMW man would have to come to oversee the claim in about a week.
So I rode home & found the fuel gauge to be working ok, so never bothered pursuing it.
It still has a bit of a mind of it's own, but I quite like that .... It's quirky!

Tripometer ... never leave home without it!

Well I tired to book the bike into the dealer and he said three weeks as they are stacked out and staff on holiday etc.
I said it only needs calibrating, he said yep one hour so sorry.

I said ok forget it I am away to Italy on the bike in two weeks so will just have to use the trip meter.
Might think about getting it done when I get back all depends on funds, they want £69 to re calibrate it.

How do they calibrate it????

When I had mine replaced at the dealership, I was told to brim the tank then ride for at least 100miles. Was a bit hacked off at the time as it was middle of winter having picked it up after work!

I am on tour in europe and after running out of fule on my 2010gsa :blast the fule gauge is not functioning any more. Constantly displaying empty and flashing orange triangle. Does the 2010 still use the fule strip or is it replaced by a flotter? Any ides if that is the problem and to fix?

Thx

Mines getting replaced/recalibrated Thursday. They recalibrate by using a BMW diagnostic computer, presumably wetting the strip for minimum and maximum fuel levels and saving the values in the bikes computer. I'll be glad to have a working level indicator and no yellow triangle.
