Anyone had probs? Had one replaced on warranty 3 weeks ago, done 80 miles on this tank and the guage hasn't moved! When do people notice the first bar going down? I know its a minor problem but if its on, it should work.

The fuel guage takes ages to start moving, and I don't really take much notice of it, except when just setting off on a ride. However, the countdown on the computer is very accurate. I've ridden down to zero a few times, and got in the full 16.5 litres.

Yes it's definitely not a linear drop, nothing happens for ages then it starts to show a drop. As others have said use the countdown computer plus I usually reset one of the trip counters when I fill up "to be sure to be sure".

I seem to remember a thread on here about this a while back. My bike intially shows something like ">110", which just means I have more than 110 miles left. Seems due to the shape of the tank it can't accurately guage fuel level when full. Eventually fuel drops to the sensor and the ">" disappears, thats when it starts to get accurate countdown.

A much better exercise than guessing is .... running it dry!

Take a 5l can of fuel with you one day, run the bike dry then check the DTE gauge ...

There are anomalies - I remember Jon Fox stopping with more than 20 miles showing, but mine went to zero then gave me another 10 miles ...

Always best to know than to hope...

Unless my friends 2 month old GS800 is faulty the countdown range has been deleted from the trip computer. Its probably BMWs way of silencing critics who complain about running out of fuel with 5 miles still showing. The fuel gauge is still the full or empty indicator so its back to using the trip and fuelling at 225 miles max.

Sooty, thanks for that, mine is this years bike and doesn't have a countdown. I've been in me shed looking for it in the display for an hour today and thought i was going mad. Anyway it finally dropped the first 2 bars tonight at 107 miles. Thanks to everyone for there thoughts.

My bike is F650GS 2011, goes into count down once light comes on giving miles to empty then I fill her up, also use trip as well and generally get about 190 miles before light. I do a lot of short runs to and from work, just over 2 miles there and 2 miles back. computer states average mpg 59. Also seems to take for ever to drop from full mark.

Just filled up this morning, had 2 bars left on fuel gauge and it took 12.5 litres to fill her up. I had only done 150 miles, thats on a new set of TKC's though, so averaging 54 to the gallon.

My average fill from light on is 12 + ish litres which should be another 1/4 ish remaining in the tank :thumb2

I went out last weekend. I was deliberately running some dodgy fuel low. I managed to ride for 5 miles after the --- showed on the display. I then got 16.75 litres in to my 16.45 litre tank.

How far has anyone else manged after the ---?

Just how much fuel can you get in these? I'm guessing that BMW don't fill up to the brim when quoting figures.

Greggers has it right:thumb2My dealer told me not to rely on the guage below the 40 left.So one day soon i`m going to run it dry so i know :clap

Mine (2012 800GS) keeps reading full until it goes down to zero within 40 miles. Then starts counting kms from zero up. It seems to be accurate when low, but doesn't start dropping until almost empty.
Had it at the dealer's and they confirmed a faulty sensor and booked for warranty replacement.

As far as I understand it's not advicable to run it dry as this will damage the catalyst convertor.

My gauge does not star to move until it has half a tank.
I last filled up with 15.15 litres with 10 miles remainiing on the counter.
