Noticed a whiff of fuel today and on inspection there is a leak on the connector for the fuel pump / main fuel line. It is the female side atop the fuel pump/tank that is leaking. Found this vid on youtube
where the guy replaces the plastic BMW fitting with an better (presumably) metal replacement but for the life of me I can't make out the make of the replacement part that he gives 50 seconds in, something voneyard? I'm hoping one of you has better ears or recognises the make. Motorworks list the metal replacement on the female side but not the male and I'd quite like to replace both. Motorworks parts here https://www.motorworks.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=FUA01006A

I got the motorworks link from a previous post on here "2004 Fuel Pump pissing petrol after 3 years dormant", very useful :)

I think you will find that it is Beamer Boneyard in the USA.
If it is the female plastic part on the top of the fuel pump housing that is cracked there was a recall by BMW on this.
They fitted a metal collar to help support it and if cracked they replaced the whole pump assembly.

check with dealership - bikes around this time got a recall some point 2014 - 2017 ? for a free pump due to some bit fracturing - might be outstanding on ur bike

Yep, that'll be it, so it was a parts dealer, much like Motorworks, rather than the actual manufacturer. Thanks for the info on the recall, that is exactly what needs looking at, I wonder how many weeks it will be before I can get the local BMW dealer to look at it

it is outstanding, I've had the bike from new, I got the recall notice and ignored it, if it's not broken don't fix it etc, lesson learned :(. I heard horror stories about folk getting landed with big repair bills when taking their bikes in for a recall on wheel nuts or some such when the stealer couldn't do the warranty work without replacing some other parts not covered (my memory may well be wrong on this)

Thanks for your replies, I will contact Coopers in Tun Wells to see when they could look at it but may just buy the the plastic part from Motorworks to get me on the road. It's probably been weeping for a while but now I know about it I can't ignore it

no doubt they are crooks - the typical one they have to get the biggest pay day is to see if their records show a 2 yearly brake fluid change - if not plug it in and run the cheat to trigger the brushes to fail - but its OK as they never go wrong according to people on this forum...

Not sure that you can buy the female connector as I think it is part of the fuel pump / filter housing. There is little change from £500 for the assembly).
Hence go for the recall, The pumps are not available as a separate part either but the £23 pumps from ebay are good.
If ever tempted to use the Chinese copies of these Q/D connectors they are fine in pairs but do not marry up to the BMW connectors, there is an 0.5 mm difference .

I recently had this recall done on an '06 bike. Dealer did try to upsell me a few extra jobs (which I politely declined), but no suggestion that the recall work wouldn't be done. No issue.

I did a temp fix with plumbers tape, but Coopers did do the warranty work, 17 years after I bought the bike, they fitted a new fuel pump at the same time and gave me a new GS for two days while they did the work. It didn't cost me a penny, not even for the loan bike

lucky git. I ended up buying a replacement fuel assembly and fitting it myself.
I also tried the replacement connectors (metal ones), didn't fix the issue as the plastic female part was the root cause.

This was all 2 days before I was leaving for Europe for 10 days. Stressful is a word I would use.

Fuel for thought.
The unmistakable whiff of petrol permeated my nostrils recently (2007 Hexhead). Initially sought refuge in denial - refuelling residues & other lies comforted me. Investigation was procrastinated but eventually one must. A weep from the Q D connection area above the fuel pump was spotted. It was hard to spot the exact issue. Again my head sought a simple fix - new seal on the male connector ordered. The weep sadly persisted. Serious intervention beckoned.
Removed the female plastic fitting from the pump flange. Inward foolishness persisted, in that I persuaded myself that popping in back in with a few wraps of PTFE tape was all that was required. The weep became a fountain that five attempts to remedy would not diminish.
Ordered the metal connectors from Ducati Tech. Followed instructions - including the really hard one - wait for 24 hours to allow the thread sealing compound cure - waiting to confirm the results of my interventions clashes with my instant gratification vibe.
Great joy today - issue banished.

Did you replace both sides (GSA) or the inline one under the right hand side of the tank (GS)

How long did the QD’s take to arrive?

Replaced the return Q D connector on R side also.
Delivery took 5 days - 3 of them due to BREXIT bollocks - a real PITA for anyone ordering outside of the UK. Mostly I now deal with the mainland continent but did not divine a source.

I have a GSA, and still have the plastic ones, 2x the right angle ones. Would you be able to let me know your source (via message) please??

These quick connect fittings are similar to those sold in the aftermarket many years ago. They were of questionable quality and often broke. I worked for a company that used these in their products (we made performance accessories and turbokits) and I considered these fittings to be dangerous in a fuel system. When my R1200GSA started leaking fuel because the plastic fitting had cracked, I decided to replace it with a metal hose fitting from the local hydraulic accessories company. Now I don't have a "quick connect fitting" and therefore have to loosen two hose clamps when I want to disassemble my tank, exactly like when I work on my other motorcycles and snowmobiles.

Was heading to Scotland last week - got that petrol aroma again - my mind uttered bollox - I fought with my mind, persuading it I had filled up in the last town. Entering the next town I was crossing a speed bump quicker than the speed bump liked - the filler cap sprung open. I had not completely clicked it home. My mind migrated from panic to peace. Scotland was dry & sunny - oh joy!

Fitted mine tonight, goodness mine didn’t look as clean as his I clarted on the sealant and let get tacky as instructions suggest. It’s a pain getting in with a wrench for final quarter turn.

Leaving for 24hrs now and will try and see no leaks. Hopefully no more smells.
