Fuel leak

Hi there

I've suddenly developed a fuel leak on my 2002 GS1150. The fuel is leaking from the lower end of the innermost of the two flexible pipes dropping via quick-release connectors from the fuel tank in the photo below.

The leak appeared shortly after I started the bike up in the morning and I noticed it just as I got in to work (10 miles). It was running out pretty fast as I pulled in but stopped quite soon after I turned the engine off. However, when I went to investigate at the end of the day I couldn't make it reappear. The next morning it was back though. My conclusion is that clearly it leaks when there is pressure in the pipe but that heat seals it off (it's cold in my garage overnight so it leaks on the morning run but the bike sits in full sun all day so the pipe is warm for the return run).

I can't fathom any way to tighten the clip on the pipe at the joint with the fixed section. Is it just a crimp job? If so it seems to be crimped as far as it will go. Can I simply replace it with a jubilee? The fixed pipe that the flexible pipe runs on to looks a bit flimsy to me, although I'm more nervous of snapping it than collapsing it.

To be honest though I'm surprised that there is enough pressure to make it leak. It seems to have a decent length of overlap onto the fixed pipe (c2cm) and I had assumed that the crimped clip was for security rather than to form the seal

Thanks

Ian

Fairly common problem, and was subject to a factory re-call when it first started to happen a couple oif years ago.

Just squash the crimped band or just use a hose clip.

Thanks. I couldn't get enough access to the crimped band to squash it down any more without some disassembly of the injector. Managed to get a small jubilee clip on it, alongside the crimped band, and that seems to have done the trick.
