When I bought 2009 GS ADV last August I filled tank up. About 30 miles into journey I noticed what I thought was water on right side of fuel pump on tank(hope that is right) as it was lashing rain I assumed it was water . When I .refueled later on that evening I could smell petrol. I did not fill bike up to brim as just stuck twenty euros in. Last month I filled tank to brim. Just after starting my ride I noticed water in same spot as before but it was not raining. I pulled over and to my horror it was petrol. Shit! Fire ran through my mind. I had no choice but to carry on. When bike reached three quarters full no fuel was leaking. I rang BMW to see if fuel recall was done and they said it was and they would look into that problem when I get down to them for service and rear wheel flange recall.Anybody any idea what it might be. I do not fancy BMW emptying my hard earned as they like to do. Sorry I do not know how to post a pic but if you are sitting on bike if you look down to right side of fuel tank it is leaking where there are pipes going into what I think is a fuel pump.
Thank you in kind for reply's.
Denis.

Fuel sucking pump gasket - I had the same issue on a 2006 GSA . A new rubber gasket was less than £10 and fixed it . It sits under the large metal ring which you have to unscrew to get at it . Part number is 16 11 7 677 883

Hi nicholsonj2252.
Thank you very much for that. I will order a part for it.
Thanks Pal.

Sombody doing fuel tank filler mod making a bolix of it? Was that still on a 09 bike? JJH

Cracked plastic boss at fuel pump discharge connection.

I think this would likely leak all of the time if it was a cracked quick release coupling - as it only leaks with a full tank my money is still on the gasket - its a simple visual check to see if it is the quick release coupling . Checking on Rainbow parts site it is only £6 for the gasket and £14 for a coupling so if it is either of these it is a relatively cheap fix . If its the coupling you will need a replacement 13mm-15mm jubilee clip as the factory fitted ones are non re-useable . Of course it could be as simple as the coupling o-ring and that will cost you £1.04p !

Thanks for answers folks. Will start with gasket and if not coupling next. Cheers

Fuel leak fixed thanks to nicholsonj2252. It was the fuel sucking pump gasket. I cannot believe how easy to work on the GS is. I was not sure how to attack the job of changing the gasket. There is a tool from bmw to unscrew the fuel pump, about £38 I think. I looked on the site for info on gasket removal and someone had done it using a piece of wood and tapping it lose. This is what I love about this site. Plenty of knowledgeable souls. Saves the shillings as well. Sorted.
