As some know I’m now rattling around on a bmw gs 1100
A quick question about the fuel guage
When I put the ignition on the low fuel light doesn’t illuminate
When does it come on?
I’m down to 1 bar on the fuel gauge now and the low level light isn’t illuminated
Cheers sll

It can vary bike to bike, either 1bar or no bars for a short while and then the light...👍 It's usually reliable and there is theoretically about a gallon "on the light" even though only desperation makes you go that far...😆 Light comes on, read your trip and give yourself about 30 miles to be safe... Obviously if you do the full tank, use then refill to the top you'll know your MPG or per litre etc first...👍
Older bikes probably have crap in the bottom and I've had the odd problem with water so running too low can be a PIA...

What fuel can do you recommend ?
Is there a GS compatible fuel container ?
one of them red ones . wot they does sell at petrol stations , or a green one
they all are . YFK . :D

my RT did just shy of 300 miles , before i bottled it and put in the 5 lts.

If you're like KTM brigade you'll need colour matched...👍

Bit of a update
Rode round a few miles with no bars illuminated
My bottle went so I fuelled up😂
I managed to get 21 litres in on the main stand
I’ve set my trip so I’ll see what I do on 21 litres

Did the light come on...? They usually do and are a good indicator of the last gallon being available...😉😁👍 My present one will do a bit on no bars before the light...

No the light didn’t illuminate
I’ll run with a can of fuel next time
Tbh I put 21 litres in it so there was still probably 5 litres still in

Right a bit of a update
Need the opinion of the 1100gs gods
As previously stated I topped my tank up with 19 litres when all the bars went out
I have covered 220 miles and the last bar is going out
So I’m pretty sure it’s done 230 miles to 19 litres
Is this normal for the 1100?

It's cos you're riding like a pussy...😉 But seriously, you going to find out by a few fill, use, refill cycles and average out... I've always usually got 10 mpl out of mine but my latest is better at 11-12 mpl... I do ride a bit differently these days than 25 years ago...😆👍

My old 1100GS loan bike used to get 115 miles out of a tank if fuel.
But it went like stink, one of the fastest 1100/1150 GS’s I’ve ever ridden.
And niot just me, all the customers used to comment how mad it was.
Totally bog standard, but might be something to do with being previously owned by BMW and used as their press bike.

And here’s a tip…. If you run out of fuel lay the bike down on the righthand cylinder, then tip it over a bit more. The trapped fuel from the L/H lobe will transfer to the righthand side where the fuel pump is, and you’ll get another 10/15 miles
