Just bought this and have realised the low fuel light doesnt come on when the key id turned to the first position along with oil etc

assumed the bulb had blown , which it had

but new bulb didnt cure it

only getting 1 or 2 volts to the bulb

I assume there is a sender of some sort triggered by the tank float when low and powered by the ignition switch at start up

any ideas where to start looking ?

thanks

Is the fuel level actually low? Light comes on when there is approximately 4-4.5 liters left.

yes, it wouldnt start so I put a litre in and away she went

It should light up prior to starting along with other warning lights

I am now guessing there could be a bit of corrosion in one of the connector blocks, I will take the tank off and investigate

thanks

No it shouldn’t.

It only lights up when it’s low on fuel. Not when you turn on the ignition.
thanks

we watched a youtube video on an r1150r for something else and noticed his came on when he turned the key on

we assumed it was just normal

he must have just been low on fuel and fooled us !

This bike is new to us this week, I went out and started it there now and although it cranks over well it takes a bit to get it going, we assumed yesterday it was low on fuel and put the litre in and it started. I am now skeptical the fuel was needed.

The bike has been sitting a couple of years so the what fuel there is will be stale and needs replaced.

After running for a few minutes it starts perfectly.

I dipped the tank and there is more fuel than I thought but not loads. So maybe its not low enough to switch the light on.

I am going to fully service the bike and take the tank off, so will drain and measure the fuel remaining and use the fuel in the lawnmower.

Hopefully the light will come on then when empty.

Thanks for the reply
