I've had my fuel tank off a couple of times recently breaking and remaking the QDs. Yesterday I struggled to get the QD connectors back together. Replaced the small o rings on the male ends and used silicone grease but still found it hard going. In the past it hasnt always been plain sailing but this time was bad.

They are the original plastic ones so 21 years old. I was concerned I'd end up breaking one of them.

I intend to get some metal male ends and replace the plastic ones. I know that generally there isn't the same need to replace the female ends but I'm wondering if after all this time they might benefit from new plastic ones? Do these tend to become problematic with age?

Is there a technique other than line them up ,depress the clip and push together?

Thanks for any guidance.

Did myou remember to push the release tab/button in before trying to re-connect?

Hmmn I might be doing it wrong......

I depressed the tab A, same one as i used to release, then try to push both ends together while still depressing tab A.

However after reading your post I've just been out to the bike and checked again.

Do you mean the small pin B thats sticking out ? When I pushed that in the release tab A jumps up. Tried to push both ends together then but still not easy.

I think maybe I dont understand how the QD works.

Not quite.
You push "A" in to release, and it should stay in, latched by the small spring on "B"
As you push them back together the button "A" should pop outwards, no need to keep it pressed in, as all this is doing is releasing the fitting again.

Hope this makes sense

Thanks for the explanation Neil.

I understand now and see where I've been going wrong.
