In the course of doing a throttle body synch, I re-routed the fuel lines on my 1150 to run between the TB cable and frame (as shown in the photo below). I'm wondering if there's a specific right or wrong way to route them.

Before I did the TB synch, the lines were run outside the TB cable. Either way I have the fuel lines run (inside or outside the TB cable), there's some interference or rubbing. When I run the lines on the outside of the TB cable, they're pressed up against the injector and injector wiring/plug quite firmly. When I run the lines to the inside of the TB cable, they rub against the TB cable adjuster and the hard lines to the fuel distributor are pushed toward the back of the bike some.

As far as I can tell, there's no interference with anything actually operating. I can't tell if there's a difference in throttle actuation or sensitivity being better or worse because any change is masked by the improvements I got from a valve adjustment and TB synch. In other words, I'm not losing any sleep over this.

Thanks!

Thanks for all your replies. The "inside" routing is what I remember from my previous 1150. For some reason the previous owner of my current 1150 routed the lines to the "outside." He did a number of things that don't make sense to me for that matter.

Don't get me wrong; I have two lines also running inside like Bin Ridin, but these are the breather/overflow tubes. The fuel lines and quick connectors run outside like yours. I've never seen a GS any different.

Paul's clarification is helpful. The vent lines run under the tank and the tank fixing bracket; I've never seen one different. My original question was intended to clarify the location of the fuel lines. The previous owner had the fuel lines run completely to the outside of the fuel injector and that didn't seem right to me. Where I have them routed in the photo above is where I believe they should be: to the "inside" of the fuel injector and throttle cable but "outside" the frame (and tank fixing bracket).

they may have rerouted them to make it easier to change the fuel filter if they were doing (or planning on doing) lots of milage.

That's an interesting idea, but I don't see how that would help when the fuel filter is inside the tank. Am I missing something?

Steptoe did a 'modification' in order for the fuel filter to be 'outside' the tank on his 1150. I remember he changed it back sighting it as too easy for someone to tamper with. The rerouting of fuel lines reminded me of that.

That makes sense, Decster. I didn't think of the case of someone "un-doing" a modification. Given what I know about the previous owner, I can't see him un-doing any of his modifications. He seemed to fancy himself knowing more than the BMW engineers.

Why would anyone tamper with your fuel filter if it on the outside? I leave my keys in the ignition on mine wherever I go - If I take them out, I would only lose them. I just prop my helmet over the sat nav too - never had any of it touched, even in London.
