Hi,
My '08 GS had to have the clutch replaced as a result of a failed input shaft seal. I'm told this takes some serious stripping.
Some time afterwards I was having a look for the famous spare connector under the steering head and noticed a pipe that was not connected to anything. I took the side and tank panels off and found what seemed to be 2 fairly thick fuel pipes. One was attached to the fuel pump and the other was just flapping around.
I also noticed a third bit of pipe coming from somewhere else and ending in a 90 degree joint, also just flapping around. I assumed this was something that had not been reconnected after the clutch replacement reassembly.
By now you'll have realised that I'm not particularly technical, however the fist piece of unconnected pipe had a metal connector on the end with a little tab or slide that could be pushed in. The end of the 90 degree connector looked about the same size, so I pushed in the slide and the 2 bits of pipe connected together perfectly. A marriage made in Germany!
My questions for those in the know are:
1.) The pipes are obviously something to do with the fuel system but does anyone know what they're for?
2.) Did I do the right thing connecting them together?
3.) The bike ran fine before I connected the 2 bits of pipe together and continues to do so post-connection. How can this be?
A bit of a mystery and any light shed on it gratefully appreciated.
