Bloody marvellous, five minutes after I pay for and fit a new FPC they invent another shiny updated one with powder coating. At least the original part manufactured in 2003 lasted for four years before it died so maybe I wont need another now for a while (tempting fate I know).

Maybe I had better buy myself a spare powder coated one ( even though I have made a 'get you home' lead from my old one just in case).

Just replaced my fpc for the second time in 18 months, this time it was out of warrenty so i did it myself. £59 from Southport Superbikes (black powder coated) realy helpful guy who served me offered advice on fitting. He told me that because i had bought it over the counter it was guaranteed for two years !!

My bike is in being fixed as we speak, I assume I should make sure that i get the 16 147 720 776 part fitted? Is this the one that comes with a bigger O ring?

Just checked the FPC price at my local dealer (Santa Fe). It's $140.00+

I just bought a spare FPC - 16 14 7 720 776 - the new black one with green O-ring / gasket (and two fixing screws!).

£64.16 including VAT.

After some deliberation I decided it's less hassle to fix whilst away than calling assist or getting stuck somewhere.

Interestingly (or not) it's got the number 7 720 774 on the actual unit.

I was in NYC recenly and thought I'd pick up an FPC as a spare as I'm planning a trip. Although this has a list price these days of $140.00, Manhattan BMW wanted $200.00. As the clerk said, "That's what it costs here in the city." I was shocked at this outrageous level of price gauging so of course I let it pass. I suggest that you avoid this dealership.

Hello everyone, from a complete GS newbie. Just about to take ownership of a 2009 GS. Have BMW now sorted the FPC problem on the later models or is it something I should consider keeping in the onboard spares dept?

The FPC issue seems to have been sorted now so you will be fine on an 09 plate
