Fuel pump controller packed up Saturday. As i was fitting a booster plug thing to test., bike wouldn't start, put back to standard and tried again, nothing.. Swapped the controller for one i bought here as a spare and all is well.
I now have a plug to bastardise, and a spare hella plug, so my question is would the under seat accessory socket be man enough for the current drawer.. If not anyone know of a place i can get a cheap sae, then i could use the optimate plug which goes to the battery direct

Thanks in advance

Don't bother with underwear plug there is a thread on here where someone made a short lead to connect the supply to the FPC directly into the pump. Will have a search. It basically cut out the "middle man" FPC and then you don't have a long lead to tie up and get in the way. I still think the best option is just to carry a spare fpc.

Thanks

The one i replaced was originally black also! No sign of corrosion other than on one of the screws 2010

At the bottom end, my new fuel gauge goes 29, 19 and zero. 100 indicates full. The bottom end when you really need to know the details isn't ideal but that's what it does. Ive now deliberately run it dry and zero really is empty. Today, it stuttered a few times so I suspect fuel flow is questionable from anywhere around the 19 level. This morning the gauge dropped to zero and almost immediately the engine stopped and wouldn't start. I used the 2.5 litres from the spare I carry. That should easily be 25 miles, but it stopped again at 16 miles so I had to walk 1/2 mile each way to get the spare can filled.

At the petrol station I refilled the spare can and the tank and it took only 29 litres. It should have been 34. I cant' see into the RHS of the tank but suspect that at low fuel levels the return flow is not enough to move fuel from the RHS of the tank.

I've had a new black FPC for about 3 months with no issues. So who knows if that is the problem. Maybe I should plug up the jet pump and fit a small fuel transfer pump to swap fuel from right to left. It could be a sort of reserve.

Never run out of fuel on any bike. Fuel management they call it :augie

If you had actually read the post you would not look such a Smart Alec.

I was managing the fuel but it still ran out. When filled my tank brimmed with at least 5 litres less than an empty tank holds. It had - more that enough for a "managed" reserve and yet it ran dry. It also managed only 16 miles when I had just put in 25 miles worth of fuel - on top of the unknown 5 litres.

So being so good at "fuel management" perhaps you can work out if it's a fuel pump problem or a fuel pump controller problem?

Ive reported how the bike behaved and agree it makes no sense.

I was deliberately running it dry, but the bike ran out of fuel with fuel in the tank. No amount of mileage / fuel management will deal with that.

I think they've improved a lot but still a shit design - having them sit in a puddle.
I carry a spare - means it'll probably never fail.

I'm beginning to think this is a popular item to fail on the road. I take it it's recommended to carry one (just in case)? Is it a feasible roadside repair job? (I'm only had my 2013 GSA TC TB a year so aren't familiar with it in that detail yet.) I like roadside repairs but I'm more used to doing them on my 21 year old H-D (rectifier and gear lever always carried). I've three weeks to get organised before I go on tour. All sensible answers graciously accepted. TIA

it's a simple 15 minute job.

i always used to carry one when i had a GS, and used it once on someone else's bike. i've done many thousands of miles traveling with others on the "affected" models and that is the only one i've ever seen.

This. I also saved someone else's trip by giving them my spare. Created for me much good Karma and many, many, beers.

Sounds like a plan then. I'll get one. Thanks for the replies gentlemen.

They come up occasionally on here for not much money.
Stick a 'Wanted Ad' up.

I also carry a ring antennae but I haven't heard of one of them failing for a good long while - reckon they sorted it.
