Hi all, i am currently considering purchasing a second hand R1200GS. My concern is Fuel Pump Controller failure. Can anyone tell me if this issue was ever fully resolved by BMW or do bikes of all ages continue to have this problem. Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards
Niall

They are pretty much all sorted. Make sure it had the recall if it was due one. In all honesty the fpc could be the least of your problems.

I have a brand spanking black FPC in it's sealed bag needing a new home.

I say it's new, but has done about 30,000 under the seat of 2 different bikes. :D:thumby:

I have a brand new black one under the seat too unused for four years. The immobiler issue was cured and there are fewer final drive failures reported on here plus a fairly cheapish solution if you had a problem. Mine had a final drive failure fixed foc by BMW and a few minor issues (cracks in screen - again fixed under warranty) other than that - no problems and mine's an '08 GSA.

Many thanks to all for your prompt replies. As I am in no way mechanically minded my main concern is a break down and the hassle of then getting the bike home.

Niall

I made a rain "cover" to keep the water out of the fuel pump controller area

Previous owner had one changed way back in 2005

Touch wood 6 years on mine is fine and dry

(I also Rubber greased the seal and ACF50'd the connectors Belt and Braces but She lies out all weathers )

I have a 2008 bike so probably one of the old controllers. 8 years, 55K and it's still working. I also have a plastic body back up controller sitting waiting (and waiting).
