i have just recently got a R1100GS i am getting from full tank to fuel light about 160 miles is that sound okay

Sounds low, how many litres can you get in the tank from the fuel light.
Sounds low to me I was up Scotland the previous weekend at one point we were looking for petrol for a while it was 220 miles before I filled up having said that it took 18.5 litres.
Mine normally does 45-48 commuting and was doing 55 ish mpg while I was away. 1100gs 64k miles.

Yeh that does seem low, mine i can run it till getting to 190 then light comes on iv never ran it past 200 without refueling. I recently went to scotland and was averaging around 55 mpg

My old loan 1100 did 130 to a tank - but it was the fastest 1100 i've ever ridden -
But it all depends how you ride them and where, and how they're set up- anything from 150 up to 220 per tank.

... you're getting around 10m/Litre then don't worry, the float positions vary according to the skills of the last person who changed the fuel filter
so should i get the fuel filter serviced ? , i have a K & N air filter installed i reset the ECU by removing the fuse , but i havent ran this config for anymore than a few miles will report back later
and if i rememeber correctly its hasnt got a cat and its got a biege CCP plug
sorry john cant remeber it was 24.99 quid at the local garge for the fill up

How big and heavy are you ? I never get the tank range everyone else claims because I am both big and heavy. 6'5" and 19 stone heavy.

Think I'll chirp in here, as I'm quite happy with my fuel consumption.
Last weekend I filled up (to the bottom of the filler) in Kendal, then rode, cross country (i.e. no motorway) to Sherbourn in Elmet, just east of Leeds for those who don't know it. I did about thirty miles around Sherbourn, then back home with maybe twenty miles of M-way. With a day's commute on Tuesday, it covered an indicated 248 miles before the light came on. When I filled up again, it took just over twenty litres.
On my old GS, I know I could ride non-stop from Kendal to the Green Welly Stop. M6-M74-M8 to Erskine Bridge, then A82 to Tyndrum. Twice it recorded 230-ish miles, though on both occasions, the light had come on at Alexandria.

so the common demominator is Alexandria for the light coming on bit of a bummer since i live there . what GS did you have 1100 ?

Yep, 'old' one is a '95, latest one is a '99.
I didn't go anywhere near Alexandria last weekend though (unless you count Hamilton services, where I found the FJ had blown a hole in its exhaust), so you're probably OK living there...

... and it still does, at best!! These 200+ figures are absolutely unimaginable to me.

... actually changing the fuel filter (unless it's very old) won't make a difference, but in order to do so you need to remove the float sender unit that tells the light when to come on. In doing so many are 'tweaked' so the float position can be different hence the light comes on at different mileages on different bikes; as I said before, the standard (for me) seems to work out at about 10m/Litre, better if you're gentle and worse if you're not
