Took my Gs to work this morning after a layoff due to my short lived MT01 obsession. From the get go she was lumpy, particularly with low revs, pulling. took her up to (possibly) illegal speed on the moors / motorway where she felt happier but not right. Came to start her at home time, turned over but not a whiff of a fire on either cylinder, I called it a draw & got recovered to home, symptom's are
Can hear the fuel pump start, make pressure, stop before starter button pressed
Starter turns over as normal
Can smell fuel in exhaust
Fuel in tank!
Exhaust valve cycles OK at key on
Spark at both plugs
Now starts but runs very rough (will idle)
Plumes of grey smoke if accelerated - (over fuelling)??
Slight hum from both throttle bodied power on / engine stopped, can hear both throttle valves respond to the accelerator engine stopped

Anyone with experience of similar issues able to shed light on the situation?

I'm more interested in the mt 01 ! Did you not get on with it? I've hankered after one for years

Is it new fuel? or has it been standing with fuel in?

Was on tour in Romania and one of our group got filled with diesel. He got about 10 miles and she was blowing white smoke on the over runs. It kept going till we pulled in for a coffee. Tank was emptied and injectors removed and as much diesel as possible purged from it. We refilled it and it still wouldn't start. Had to tow it with a van for about 3 miles before it fired up.

MT01 has always been on my bucket list, I landed a pristine one complete with factory stage 2 ecu & full Arkapovic Titanium exhaust, single seat etc, it was full of character but having bought it well, someone offered me £3k above what I paid so off she popped. for a GS owner, the MT is somewhat cramped, handle bars are very narrow & the 100(ish) mile tank range is woeful. I will post a pic id you can tell me how as I cant see a cut & paste button??

Stood for a while but no longer than usual, plugs showing over - rich on both, have a spark on both, have injectors pulsing on both, I'm going down the contaminated fuel route first though the bike was nearing empty so ran the rest of the tank fine a little while ago?

Definitely sounds like fuel quality or contamination.

OK, now sorted. stripped & cleaned fuel tank, replaced the in tank fuel filter, added fresh fuel & after a struggle, she fired & settled once the lines filled with fresh fuel & the 02 sensors sorted themselves out. All back together but awaiting fresh plugs before going out on the road :)

sounds like condensation / water to me - was it a mostly-empty tank over a cold damp couple of months?
