Hello!

I have just bought myself a R1200GS :) . A thing on my bike is that the fueltank is more to the left :( . That means that the gap between the tank and seat are on right side so big so you can get your fingers between while on the other side theres no gap...

I've contacted the company that sold me the bike and they looked up another 1200GS they had, same thing there but maybe not as much. Anyone else that has the same problem?

So, can I somehow center the fueltank? :nenau

/Guztav from Sweden, thats the reason for my bad English

Fuel Tank............

Hi there,
Firstly your english is far better than our Swedish so don't panic...
Secondly, maybe its not the tank that is not straight but possibly its your seat. Check to see whether your seat is correctly fitted, because to me it seams odd that the tank would be misaligned.........
good luck.

Hej Gustav

It definitely sounds like your seat is not fitting correctly.

Look in the owner's instruction book. It is posibble to have the seat in two positions:

(1) High

(2) Low

There are two bars under the seat that set the hight. The two bars must be in the correct place.

The seat is awkward to fit at first but once you have done it a few times it gets quite easy.

Good luck

PS Where in Sweden are you living?

this problem has been listed before I seem to remember, sorry cant remember the details but try a search. Mike.

Perhaps someone had the tank off and didn't seat it properly over the two rollers in the very front. Take off the two side panels and have a look. if so, back out the bolt and shove the tank forward till seeted properly.

Or take it to a dealer and let them have a look.

Good luck.

This has been covered before. You are almost certainly not fitting the seat properly. It's a bit awkward and takes practice to fit it correctly.

Since i have seen the problem first hand i can confirm that it is the tank that is misaligned in comparison to the steering head bearing and the mountingpoint for the rear shockabsorber.

You are right Gilbert - all 1200's I have seen (including my own) have this to a lesser or greater amount.

Mine was quite pronounced, like yours. I re-mounted the tank and it is vastly improved but still not perfect. Can't say it bothers me anymore though :)

I live in the north part of Sweden... :thumb

About the seat, No it's not the seat. The fueltank are more to the left, check picture in this thread that Gilbert found http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47429 looks very much like my problem. You can se the center of the airbox, but the center of the tank is more to the left...

I can see in the other thread that Gilbert had that this is "standard" on the 1200GS but has anyone any suggestion to fix the problem? :bow

I've tried loosing the tank with the same resault as before...

Spent a week in Kiruna a while back. Not in the Ice hotel, but in the forest. Was ace, loved it, recommend everybody goes to North Sweden immediately just for the view at night

Hi again!

I might have a solution to the problem :clap . I took a car washing spunge (spelling?) and squised it in between the tank and the white/silver plate on the right side. The tank is now where it should be at the beginning. Easy fix!

Some of the screw holes had to be forced together because of the new position but it wasn't to much, I hope anyway... I didnt need to use that much violence :-)

So my question to you guys are now if I have forgotten any sideaffects by doing this? :nenau

Best regards

It is the tank that is not aligned in center, at the filler cap it's 6mm off to the left. I've had the tank off and checked all four mounting points and I can't see anything wrong. Either it's the tank mould itself, or it's the mountings on the subframe that's not aligned. Normal tolerances in production/welding maybe (german engineering, jaaaa). I don't think it's a good idea to put something under the panels, the plastic may crack. Just ignore it, I will.
