Seen lots of posts about folks painting bits of there engine/drive train. But has anybody attempted to do a full repaint ??????

If so what problems did you have ?????

Cheers

Steve

Never done it but it will be difficult to remove or mask the nuts and bolts.

I guess not then ;) SO thought id give it a go not a job for the faint hearted. Striped out all the front end stuff to leave me this

So the plan is now to rebuild front end then remove gearbox/drive train for paint will have a quick look at the clutch while gear box is out

I have to ask... which paint did you use?

The silver is Volkswagen satinsilber-met base coat its half litre I had left over from a job I did on my sons Passat not the correct colour but shame to waste it and its topped with 2k clear coat.

I think a closer match other than using Hammerite smooth is BMW 244 Stirling Silver

Is it heat resistant? Or are you still waiting to find out?

I ask because my engine, particularly the cylinder heads, would benefit from painting but I assumed I would need special heat-resistant paint.

I like that.....it's the sort of thing that I would do....

Nice one....Please post pics' when she's all back together......:)

Don't think it needs to be heat resistant. I've painted engines with rattle cans and regular paint for metal and they were all fine.

No just regular paint from the local factors cant see the heat being a problem but time will tell

I have had regular Hammerite smooth spray paint on my cyclinders for about 6 months now and it still looks good. No peeling etc.

Looks good :thumb2 out of interest - how did you clean it up before spraying?

A lot of elbow grease;) Most of the rubbing down was done with Polycarbide Abrasive Disc gets in between the fins just fine then washed the whole lot down with gun wash thinners.

Front ends going back tougher striped drive train/gearbox out and have painted them the gear box was very bad
