Fully loaded GS

Myself and a mate are looking into doing a bit of european touring towards the end of the summer. We'll be going 2 up (2x 1200GS with 1 rider and 1 pillion on each).

We'll be picking up our GS's next month and are trying to do some planning re loading up tents, sleeping bags etc. on to the bike. We're looking at some ZEGA panniers and some kind of rollbag on the back/top of the bike.

Will this storage be adequate for a 3 week trip for two people? Any suggestions welcome.

Ditch the stock plastic tripod rack for the stainless version that fits the GSA for a start. The stock rack cannot take any weight worth talking about with additional support and is too high and too far forward.

Lots of GSA owners want to fit vario paniers which won't work with the GSA rack so a swap could be a solution.

Do a search as someone recently asked about this very subject.

Also consider a tank bag for extra space.

Ever do any of the BM ride outs with Maddocks? Hear they do a trip to Scotland and one to Germany?

you dont need as much as you think ,pack then unpack chuck all the crap out you dont need ,then pack again , so on and so on till you get down to a few duds toth brush a T-shirt one pair of jean,s that it , enjoy

Yeah thought that about the rack alright, I'll wait to get the bike before I make swapping arrangements... the dealer might even swap it for me if I talk nicely

The trip should be good alright, never been on a rideout from Maddocks - those trips could be good craic, where did you hear about them? anything online?

Hattech do some nice bolt on rack, will take 20kg if they have to

Took everything I thought I would need- all we needed really was clothes for two days and what we had on!

Do not take half as much as you pack then re pack but only half again.........you get the idea....make sure the clothes you do take are quick drying and take liquid soap for washing everything including you......

Have a great trip- remember leave space in the panniers and take a waterproof roll pack for the light bulky stuff and place on the top box- makes great back support for pillion. Heavy stuff in left and right panniers-evenly- you should also have a good tank bag with money, paperwork, camera, pens note book and stuff....

Yep - as long as you're happy with one pair of shoes each and will wash your clothes enroute.

went over to eu last year with girlfreind camping.i think the top box was most usefull for us &self infleating matress...enjoy

Touring

Collect every thing you think you will need, keeping to a minimum, then throw half of it away as you wont need it!. As reccomended to Charly B. by Ray Mears, and it'sthe right way to do it, you don't mneed lots of cloyhs as you can wash things every couple of days so wear one out fit and wash the other
and it works.
