Gael warning in Liberia

What a great pity you said 'no" to my request to use ADVosm maps and to report back.
On the ground observations are very useful when making improvements for the benefit of others... but I'm guessing that's a 'bridge too far' for you eh Simon?...:augie
Hi Treb

I thought I had explained in another thread where you raised this (or maybe when you raised it earlier in this thread? Or in the PM I sent you in response, when you admonished me for my lack of community spirit...) that I mainly use a very old iphone with maps.me. It is backed up by an (even older?) Nav V which no longer accepts updates or connects with 'the mother ship'.

So
a) I don't think I have the technology to carry out your 'request' (which in any case I saw as a suggestion)
b) there will be enough challenges along the way on this trip without adding a different mapping or navigation system to the mix, I feel.

May we consider the matter closed, please?

Cheers, Simon

Safe travels, is Paludrine still used for Malaria?
I believe Paludrine is no longer available in the UK.

Having lived/worked in the African bush for a number of years though, I can confirm that the best approach by far is to not get bitten. All of the prophylactics have side-effects for many who take them and none can be taken safely on an on-going basis (or none of the ones available when I was out there, 15 years ago).

Peaceful Sleep was my bug deterrent of choice then - and still is. If I can’t get PS, I’ll settle for Autan.

Mosquito net, 50% DEET and long sleeved shirts lacked. Fortunately I don’t seem to react badly to atovaquone.

My dad had malaria, contracted in Libya.
It was mostly no problem but I do remember him being quite ill during a “bout”.

As has been said best approach is not to get bitten but not always easy!

Luckily mossies seem not to like me but if I am bitten I don’t react much so don’t know
