I look forward to it Simon :D

And so home via long and uncomfortable flights….the distance between gates at Istanbul Airport can be more than a mile - which is not fun when you have a short connecting time!

I made it home about 9 pm minus my luggage (thanks Turkish Airlines!) and at least half a stone lighter

So after my best man’s funeral today I think it’s time for some rest and recovery (and doing my share of housework, too!).

Thanks for following, all.

Thanks Simon.

I think you could make a book about this trip. Sounds Epic and you are much braver than I to do such a journey.

Amazing and thanks again for the write up.

Thanks for your kind words but I am as lily-liveried as the next bloke.

However over some years (and 112 countries) of travel that most people are friendly and helpful to travellers and most situations can be handled with appropriate planning and preparation .

So saw the doctor yesterday (sadly, my GP couldn’t see me until next month so had to find a private GP, what has happened??!!) and am suitably dosed up with antibiotics and a blood test sent for tab check (hopefully only precautionary ).

After a week in antibiotics (yeuch!) my chest infection seems gone (or quiescent ) and although I have yet to replace the missing kilograms, I feel like I am on the mend.

Unfortunately my erstwhile travel companion is not faring so well, judging by yesterday’s update from W. Mongolia:

Hope nothing else befalls him

About 20 years ago I flew from Sakhalin to Vladivostok on the way to Moscow, the airport was busy and I decided it would be quieter in the departure lounge so I went through. It was winter, about 20 below and windy, the departure area was open to the elements and I had 90 minutes there.

Hopefully Gary will enjoy the place more than I did!
