Just did a visual inspection on the bike and noticed that bot the FD to swing arm and swing arm to gearbox Gaiters are cracked. The FD one will be easy enough to replace but what about the front one? Can the driveshaft be pulled easy enough or does the arm have to come off?

The driveshaft is held onto the gearbox splines by a snap ring, the repair manual says to lever it off with a screwdriver inside the UJ knuckle.

mines going to dealers tom for same thing 08 gsa 9000ml the plastic retaining clip snapped holding it in place 34 quid for the gaiter (about couple of quids worth) and £94 fitting 1hr labour time pretty pissed

mine on the gear box end has had light cracks in for some time. i just going to wait now till i need a final drive unit and do the lot

Thanks for the info :)

They haven't cracked all the way through yet but its something I will do at it's service in August even if they haven't cracked right through. I would rather do that than have them fail and the swing arm fill with grime and water.

Drop the final drive unit down, slide the gaiter onto the shaft and along it's length inside the swingarm until you get to the gearbox end where it'll pop into place :D

I'm only joking. :D

....fail and the swing arm fill with grime and water.

There is an open drain hole at the FD joint. So the gaitors don't fully seal the drive anyway.

Edit: this is on the HP2, and not sure if this applies to the GS.
