Garmin 2610 loading maps to CF card.

I am having a problem loading maps from mapsource into my Garmin 2610 my pc will not recognise my Garmin when it is connected to a usb port.

I am running europe v8.

Can i load maps from mapsource into a cf memory card via a card reader and will it then show the chosen maps in my 2610.

Yes it will.

I have exactly the same problem with my 2610.

If you have Europe V8, you can only upgrade to V9. Garmin have no further updates beyond this. If you already have the mapping on your card then all you need to do is transfer the routes and waypoints to your CF card.

This is not correct.

The latest version of maps would be v11 but v10 was called CN2008 & v11 was called CN2009. Neither are available to buy as Garmin no longer supply the non NT versions of CN.

Also, only mapping data is stored on the CF card. You can upload new map tiles to the card via a USB card reader or card port on a PC. Waypoints & routes are stored in the 2610's onboard flash memory, so to record routes and waypoints to the device from mapsource you will need to connect the 2610 to a USB port.

I expect the problem with both of your computers is that you do not have the correct device driver on the PC. Go to http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=591 and get the generic Garmin USB driver which should work for all Windows platforms & Garmin devices.

Yes, you are right. Sorry, my mistake. I always get V9 mixed up with 2009.

However, the problem has nothing to do with the drivers - they are bang up to date. The computer will just not recognise that it has anything attached to it. I've tried other units and even a friend's 2610 and they are all recognised by my computer. Other USB ports also make no difference and my wife's laptop does exactly the same. It's still perfectly useable but routes cannot be sent to the device using Mapsource, as you state.

There are companies that repairs them but I don't know if it's worth it. My friend used THESE to replace a delaminated screen at reasonable cost.

I solved my problem by buying a secondhand 2820 and updating the maps.
