Being the lazy sod I am and the fact that Garmin made selecting the whole of City Navigator Europe v9 more than 2.0gb, I picked up a Sandisk 4.0gb CF card from 7day shop for about £15. I normally use a 2.0gb card with only the far eastern/south east part of v9 not selected as it won;t fit on the card.

Initailly I popped it in the unit and tried downloading all the maps that way.

A few hours later :augie , I get a message saying the card is only 2.0gb in size and it needs more space blah blah blah.......

So I plug the card into the card reader on my printer and it reads it as a 4.0gb and allows me to download all of the maps to it, took a while, but worked.

Plugged the card into the 2610 and it reads the maps okay, I can zoom in and out etc, select waypints and route to them etc, but it won't let me find an address.

If I try to, I can't/it won't let me input numbers in the number bit, or letters in the character bit, they're all greyed out.............

Also, where you'd normally limit the search to;

No Limit, England, Enter a City in England, Enter a City, Enter a Country, Enter a Postal Code

it only allows me;

no limit, Eneter a City, Enter a Postal Code

Any ideas?

Have you got the latest updates ie 6.12.4 2 parts marked below might help.

Change History

Changes made from version 6.12.3 to 6.12.4:

Fixed an issue detecting some Garmin mass storage devices. :thumb
Fixed an issue at application startup when the expected code pages are not installed on the PC.
Fixed a layout issue in the Czech language waypoint dialog.

Changes made from version 6.12.2 to 6.12.3:

Fixed an issue transferring routes to the Zumo.
Fixed an issue with the integration of Google Earth and MapSource.
Fixed an issue with the size estimate of selected map sets.

Changes made from version 6.11.6 to 6.12.2:

Changed the default file format to GDB version 3.
Added web links. This feature allows user created internet search options to appear on context menus. These search options can use either location or name information.
Added a MiniMap.
Added new waypoint symbols (contacts, geocache, hunting, etc.).
Added support for multiple links on waypoints, routes, and tracks.
Added additional guidance for the user when clicking on the 'View in Google Earth' menu item.
Added support for writing waypoints, routes, and tracks to SD cards for new chart plotters.
Enhanced the driving directions page in the route dialog to provide additional statistics.
Added a notes area to the route dialog. These notes are printed with driving directions.
Added two options to the routing preference 'Try to Avoid' list: ferries and seasonal road closures.
Added support for multi-line comments for waypoints.
Added a transfer preference to specify if (and which) serial ports should be searched for Garmin devices. This should solve problems for users that have badly behaved internal modems that cause MapSource to hang.
Added the ability to join tracks from the Tracks page.
Added track color to the list on the Tracks page.
Changed the behavior of the track draw tool to populate the elevation in tracks if the map product has DEM elevation data.
Changed several feature symbols (mountain peak, city, and airport) to be smaller so they don't obscure as much of the map. This only applies when the large symbol size is selected.
Adjusted the layout of several preference pages for improved usability.
Changed the behavior of several dialogs to ignore the degree symbol in user provided coordinate strings.
Fixed an issue when selecting map sets larger than 4 GB in size.:thumb
Fixed an issue with saving files to offline network drives.
Fixed an issue with preserving line feeds inside of comments in GPX files.
Fixed an issue with printing when the 'No Map' product is selected.
Fixed some line rendering issues on Blue Chart map products.
Fixed an issue with some postal code address searches not finding results.

2GF or more?

I thought the issue that was fixed was to do with the 2610 reading cheaper/other brand CF cards and not just the size of the card - I think (and I could be wrong) that the OS can only read 2GB (and also there a limit to the number of tiles that the GPS can access within that).

Personnally - the 2GB cards are so cheap (and so small) and that it only takes seconds to switch over I don't see the need for a larger card ....

All up to date as far as I'm aware - I'm also assuming that each update would include all details from previous ones, so you don't have to do each one.

Yeah, but this was as cheap as a 2gb, which is why I chanced it.

I'll double check Mapsource/the unit are all up to date.

The issue is the SP2610 firmware, it will only support 2GB cards.

As this is a superseeded model I doubt if Garmin will ever add support for bigger cards.

Yeah, but as I said, there's at least one person in this site who's used a card bigger than 2gb successfully.

Also, I can see all map detail, route to waypoints, just not "find" anything.

Maybe I'll have a go at "near here" and see what happens

I would say that if you know that for a fact , then a search may be in order to find out.:mmmm You seem preoccupied with that fact.:nenau

Not really no.........:mmmm I'll put the kettle on a search for the guy who made the post. Was hoping I wouldn't have too.

A bigger than 2GB card needs to be formatted FAT32 which the SP2610 does not read properly.
I have a zumo with the same problem (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249918) except that the zumo is stated by Garmin to read the bigger cards. The SP2610 is not.

Yeah, but like I said before.............yadayadayada :D

Have you tried loading 1.9 GB or less to the 4 GB card ?

Good idea, Burnie, I'll try that.

Garmin won't update it, it's an incentive to upgrade. :rob

No shit Sherlock :mmmm

Hi Jon.

Sorry for any flippant remark I may have used.:bounce1

Hi Jon.

S'okay Pat, bad day at work and I bit :D

The first link is the one I'd read.

Thing is, I can see all the map detail, pan in and out etc, find "near me" things, route to them, but can't type in a address. So, it's obviously reading the card as the details there. Maybe it's in how it downloaded it :nenau

I'll try the 1.9 suggestion when I get an hour or 2 and see if that makes any difference

JON.

No problem.

I am of the opinion that if I can help someone then I will. Always been like that.

My ankle is giving me a bit of gyp and I sometimes write without thinking myself.

Be Saf(er).
