Garmin 660 firmware update

Copied off Zumoforums.......

"Garmin has released a Zumo 660 Version 5.1 today, which I've been told specifically addresses the music stops (every 2 minutes or so) issue"

I really hope they've fixed it this time...I'll go see if I can download it now.

Oh feck... Shall I, shan't I? Leaving on annual tour tomorrow, could all go Pete Tong.

I would definitely leave it alone. I had a failure during update the night before our trip which basically left me with a useless piece of plastic for a trip to France. Ended up following my wife around who had an iphone 5 with tom tom maps which worked flawlessly and made me wonder why i torture myself with this Garmin. Got it finally sorted in a mates house in Toulouse after several hours on his PC and several beers. Still ended up following the Tom Tom on Iphone just too easy and reliable. The phone did get hot but never shutdown even in 32c temperatures. If its working dont tempt fate like me!

I've loaded it up and am sat in my lounge, helmet on, listening to my MP3's via bluetooth. So far so good, am up to about 10 minutes listening and no skips in the audio. Usual faff to get it to start up in A2DP but its done that on all versions I've had. Will see how long I can stand watching Brazil v Cameroon whilst listening to 70's rock classics! I'm using a Zumo 660 with Scala G9 if that's relevant.

Are you hanging on to your air handlebars? :augie

But I have a new BT headset... not played very much music through it yet so not sure if there's a problem or not. Does do a stutterey thing coming off a long bike-to-bike session that needs a reboot to solve, is that it?

So tempting, I'll have a netbook with me so can hopefully revert if it doesn't work. Just having a look into the possibilities on that, I'm sure that you can with the right GDC file. Call me a mug...

Testing a revert to 4.9 first to test the theory... :bomb

There was a GUPDATE.GCD file on the Zumo so have saved that as it's most likely to be 5.0. Have also downloaded and saved the 5.0 off the perry archive. Don't know who the geezer is but this isn't the first time I've thanked him...

Right 4.9 downgrade complete and successful so I can downgrade back to 5.0 whilst away of this doesn't work. I'm going in...

Seems successful, we'll see :roll

I always updated by zumo 660, bought a few weeks after their initial release and have never had any problems whatsoever. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong....:aidan

Whilst I've had the same experience as yourself it would be sods law that doing this immediately before a big trip would lead to problems. Fingers crossed that isn't the case.

Ferry company changed port of departure with only a scant 24 hours notice. 10 year old daughter's hamster died yesterday (not a huge deal to most but to a 10 year old it seems pretty awful), he's lying in state at the back of the freezer until I get back as apparently SWMBO doesn't do a particularly good rodent funeral. What else could possibly go wrong...
