Calling all you Satnav boffins. Your help please!

Purchased for a friend, a Garmin 660 from the "For Sale" section on Ukgser.

The problem is, though there's Sd card in the unit, it won't load any more than 3 routes, all are only around 100 miles each. Mapsource recognises the unit and sends the route, go to Satnav Custom routes section and it's not there, only the last 3 downloaded. I also have a 660, which has no problem downloading the same routes from Mapsource. PS.And before you ask, can't get my head round Basecamp !!

If the unit is at fault, I'll have to return it to the seller, as it's no use for our trip of 4 weeks in Europe.

You have to start the unit up and import the routes you have sent it. They will then show up in your saved routes.

Now having a 590, I can't remember exactly how to do it. But I can remember having the same problem.

Good luck.

At a guess, Gargy has it about right.

I haven't owned a 660 for a while, so cannot remember the exact sequence. But, they'll probably be there somewhere.

To save yourself a bit of time, highlight the routes you wish to import in Mapsource and drag them straight to the SD card. Then import. If the routes were created in different maps, the device may well ask if you wish to recalculate them. Depending on how the routes were created and the device's own preference settings, this may (or may not) be a good idea.

PS The 660 has an upper limit on the number of routes it can hold, ready for instant use, at any one time. It's quite a big number (20 or more???) but do check your chum has not exceeded it.

Chris,

I had no problem with the 660. ( I was the seller).I used it this summer on our 2000 mile RDGA trip and downloaded all the routes using Motogoloco as I hate Mapsource.
No idea why your having problems-Jumpjim of this parish will vouch that my unit worked fine,as he was the one that uploaded the routes to Motogoloco and then spent most of the week following me !
