Garmin map and software update

Has anyone done a recent update and come across any problems ?

Have done 2 Nav 5,s and both of them cannot find satellites to commence any route planning.

I'm trying a fresh map and software install after deleting Garmin Express to see if that works.

I'm interested in other solutions if any other user has solved the problem.

There is a warning somewhere round here not to update the nav 5. Some dealer has had a pile of them returned.

I found that by turning selecting GPS off (GPS Simulator mode) then turning back on again solved the problem.

If you are confusing it with the problems some owners have had with Garmin Express software failing to locate an SD card in the device; that problem has been resolved.

I suggest you try the very good dedicated GPS section.

There is no good reason why the two devices have lost their ability to locate satellites after a map update; I updated three Nav V's and two Mac's on Friday, without a problem. I can only guess that:

1. You are using the devices indoors

2. The two devices have not been used for some time, their clocks are wrong and may well take a while to locate satellites. Go outside, with a good view of the sky and wait a while.

3. The two devices are set with their satellite locating turned off. From memory, go to settings, navigation, scroll down, GPS simulation or something like that.

Both devices were working fine 3 days ago. I had one on my bike all day yesterday and stop and started a couple of times during a 100 mile journey and still said 'Acquiring Satelites'

After uninstalling and reinstalling maps and software it appears now to be receiving a Satellite signal so will take it with me when I go out later and see how it goes.

The 2nd Nav 5 is no different so will reinvestigate and see how we get on.

My NAV 5 did this! After an update not the one just released recently but the previous one. It was outside in clear sky for about 30 mins and couldn't find satellites I even tried powering off and back on again and still it failed! I was thinking it had developed a fault but for some reason I tired putting it into GPS Simulator mode (GPS off for indoor use etc) and then bcak on again and within a few minutes satellites were re-located. Its been OK ever since.

GPS simulator is found in the navigation menu.

I don't understand how just updating the maps would cause this, maybe a firmware update would, but a map update seems strange, you could remove the maps from the unit and it would still be able to lock onto sats.

It was maps & software updates.

That would go a long way to explaining the fault, and my bad for not noticing it in the title.

I think I have sussed it now, deleted Garmin Express, installed an older version but did the update process via Basecamp, this time after updates after a few moments of being left plugged in said there was a critical update to do too.

Both Nav 5s now find satellites but not as rapidly as before, need to get out and test them on the road
