Just opened Garmin Express to update the system software for my Nav V to 2.90.

GE tells me that there is a map update available for the Nav V: 2015.20

it also tells me that that update is applicable to my car nav system (a Nuvi 3490)

I will wait a bit and see if there are any issues reported with the map update

If I could get my satnav back, I'd put the new maps on it!

Just updated both PC and Satnav, Garmin Express found the card in the Satnav so downloaded all Europe as far as I know. Used JaVaWa GMTK to delete previous mapping from PC and set projection angle to 55deg (for Basecamp) all good :thumb2

Downloaded it and its stopped Basecamp working. It would seem that the Toshiba Satellite laptop has a well known driver problem and this means I was on 4.2.5 version of Basecamp. Still have 4.2.5 in the programs list, but Basecamp is not getting past the geotagged pictures that was / is the problem since 4.3 started.

So they have effectively made my otherwise ok laptop into junk. And the Garmin Forums site seems to have disappeared too :blast

Just attempted my first ever map update since getting the Nav V.

Express came up with message that 2015.20 was available so I loaded that first onto the Mac. No idea why I didn't tick the box for upload to device and computer, but in the back of my mind was the memory of something I read on here that it was safest to just load onto the computer first. Anyway that took about an hour and when I booted up Basecamp I could see the new map (ticked) with the old one still there too.

Then I did exactly the same again using Express but this time selected "device only" on the advanced options. About 45 mins later I got an error message to say that the device was full and the new map couldn't be loaded! :(. I ejected the Nav V and found that now I had no map installed on it (apart from a base one with no detail). Reconnected and tried again and 45 nail biting minutes later everything updated fine on the device. I'm showing Europe DEM, CN Europe NTU 3D and CN Europe ALL on the device and City Navigator Europe NTU 2015.2 on Basecamp. Seems to all work fine but time will tell! :thumb

No idea why it wouldn't load onto the Nav first time. Should I have deleted the original map? :nenau

Anyway seems to have worked via my long winded route second time around. If anyone has a better way of doing this then please share.

Its odd Express didn't know how much room was avalable, I'd left a microSD card in my Satnav (by accident actually), Express found it and loaded mapping there

Anyway, I'd recommend leaving a card in the satnav all the time now, ready for maps :thumb

PS, why Garmin never do seem to have enough base memory is a mystery to me considering how much it costs :nenau

That is exactly what mine did. !

Seems a sensible approach ans would have the added advatage of giving you a map on the Nav and a map on the card in case one went tits up!

The bit I can't get my head around is why there wasn't enough memory space on the unit first time of trying, but there was on the second attempt :nenau ? Express had clearly deleted the 2014 map from my device as it wasn't there when I switched it on!. As redrick has had the same thing happen we can only assume this is some sort of weird and quirky anomaly in the Garmin software (wouldn't be the first time!)

As Toyah once said "It's a mystery!"

If I get time today I'll ping an email over to Garmin and see what they come back with . In the meantime I shall be adopting the approach of the venerable Lord Wapping and will be carrying a map, pencil and paper at all times!

I have had to use maps all year since unsuccessfully trying to install the 2014 maps we have exchanged many emails with Garmin and had three attempts to install whilst being guided by Garmin product support on the phone. A couple of weeks ago we had to send them log files and xml files so they could try and identify the problem, they have now given up on 2014 and we are about to try and install 2015 as per their email.

Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.

My technical team have been looking into the issues you have been having with Express. They have informed me that a new version of mapping City Navigator 2015.20 was released yesterday and will be available for download to your device. Their advice is to delete the device from Express again and then reassociate it as this should enable it to install the new update.

To delete the device and reassociate it

PC
Open Garmin Express
Click Device
Click Delete Device from Express
Uncheck the box next to Delete the saved backups
Click Yes to delete the device
Close Garmin Express and restart the computer
Open Garmin Express and follow the on-screen prompts to add the device to Express
You should then be able to successfully run the update.

I can't believe how fecking complicated this updating of maps is GRRRRR, wish me luck.
John.

Just tried this on my Montana and it still doesn't see the maps or CN EU 2015.20 that was there

Make sure Garmin Express is at least version 3.2.18.0 as there was a problem with earlier versions which stopped downloads for some units.

Garmin Express was not updated from not seeing my Montana to it seeing it and it was already at 3.2.18.0 and 3.2.16.0 suddenly saw it as well, strangely the same time that 3.2.18.0 did.
