Just looking through the newer Montana models and apart from the increase in price, they also use GLONASS in addition to GPS. which is the Russian equivalent to GPS.

Has anyone here used it yet? Is it worth the extra price premium over the older GPS only units?

You honestly won't be able to tell!
The only time I've ever experienced GpS loss is when the military jam it ... Or when I'm indoors.

Oh, any taxpayers might want to ask, with the American and Russian systems working flawlessly , they spend billion of your money on a white-elephant EU system ?

Phones have supported both for years. You get a faster and more accurate lock simply because there are more satelights within view. I won't be replacing any kit over it though.

With all sorts of non-personal uses depending on GPS I don't think Europe would have been wise to rely on the US and Russian systems.

So it doesn't justify the extra £100 or so the newer units are being sold for over the older units??

Because both the Russians and the US have the ability to turn off the signal that Joe public uses and transmit only the military M-band.
Good enough:nenau
