Garmin Zumo 220, any good?

Its a cut down version, so look at and compare specs of each model, so zumo 220 vs zumo 660

I got a 220 a while ago coz it was a good bit cheaper than the 660 and I didnt need all the extra stuff that was on the 660. As this is my first sat nav ive nothing to compare it to.As far as im aware the mapping and routing will be the same as the 660(i could be wrong coz im still a bit of a newbie with satnavs) so unless you need to store alot more routes and waypoints,music,bluetooth phone connection or the bigger screen the 220 is just fine.I dont store any routes,just use map.Been all round europe and some of the middle east both driving lorries and on bike before I had a satnav and never had a problem using a map so I still tend to trust my map reading more than the satnav but the one and only time I did use the 220 was a couple of years ago on a trip to the alps and it worked just fine although like I said been there numerous times before so kinda knew where I was goin.The 220 came with the mapsource cd just like the 660 does but I dont use it so maybe I would have been as well gettin a cheaper nuvi(no mapsource cd) and a waterproof cover.So if you want a no frills satnav with mapsource the 220 fine,if you want the all singin all dancing satnav with mapsource then mabye 660,if you dont need mapsource then mabye one of the nuvi range with a waterproof cover.

Can't see it for £200 on Amazon? At that price I'd say it's a steal. Buy a load of them and flog them off on eBay!

I've had a 220 since April '11, which replaced a 550 and a Quest. It works fine for me (I have used it to lead groups on UK and Europe rides) but it does have some quirks.
Not-so-good points
The screen isn't as good as the 550 - it is the same size and resolution, but the contrast drops off more rapidly as you view it 'off-angle'. You need to mount it so that you view the screen close to 90 degrees. I use the 2D map display and the default colours are not great for easy visibility (the 3D map is better in this respect). This may not be an issue for you though - I know I'm a little red/green colour blind which doesn't help
The sound is only available via Bluetooth - there isn't an audio jack on the unit. This doesn't bother me because I don't use the sound.

It comes with Mapsource, and you can store endless routes on the micro SD card. The navigation features are much the same as the 550, except that the 220 will not create a route from a track, and does not have the route share features of the 550. The 220 will record tracks automatically though.
It is more compact than the 550, and was easier to mount on my MTS1200 than the 550.
If you can buy one for £200 it sounds like a bargain - I paid about £260 and thought that was good value compared to the 660.

The pricing gets tweaked.. so if its a slow moving item/line, they get it started again, so £200 yesterday is £269 today.. so if it says buy now, they mean it.

That thread was 2 months ago and its all change again. Suggest another read of the thread pattern and watch stock movement lines especially with Amazon as they will dangle offer and they do mean by now, cos when it moves again, so does the price (goes north)

I bought a Zumo 220 'package' with the locking mount from Touratech, Niedereschach last year.........My Quest 1 was too old and i'm impressed with the Zumo 220.
Got me home no problem and I like the lane assist........Mounted mine up front above the instruments and it's easy to see aswell.
Used it in Iceland in May/June and it worked fine there......I wasn't after a really expensive GPS with a host of features i wouldn't use so the 220 is fine for me.....!
